I think you¢ will enjoy being a member, and¢ make many new friends.¢¢ ITEMS:¢¢ ALEX PIGNATO is the latest¢ author in the OL' HACKERS. If you¢ want to find out what we are all¢ about, read the article in CURRENT¢ NOTES May 1993 called "THE OL'¢ HACKERS ATARI USERS GROUP, INC.¢ (OHAUG)" it is on pages 38,39.¢ You will find a complete history¢ of our club, what we do, how we help¢ each other and why we are still¢ growing. It is a terrific article¢ that is interesting and worthwhile to¢ read. Congratulations ALEX on a well¢ written article.¢ On Friday May 28, the local¢ members of the OL' HACKERS got¢ together, packaged stamped and mailed¢ the 267+ A.C. disks. The meeting was¢ held at JACK GEDALIUS' house.¢ The club voted to send $20.00 to¢ THE NEW NEST BBS and THE MACHINE BBS.¢ We feel these BBS's are the lifeline¢ for the Atari community in our area¢ and they deserve our support. We¢ received a thank you from each of te¢ BBS's.¢¢ NEW DISK PROGRAMS:¢¢ We are selling a newly created¢ disk that has 4 great programs on it.¢ 1. A YEARLY CALENDAR where you can¢ indicate important dates, and print¢ them out as well. No more forgetting¢ your wedding anniversary etc.! 2. A¢ MONTHLY POCKET CALENDAR where you can¢ indicate your appointments on a¢ monthly basis, and print them out. 3.¢ A PERSONAL DAILY AND MONTHLY¢ CALENDAR. You can list up to 7¢ appointments daily. It prints out a¢ daily list as well as a monthly¢ calendar. 4. A DISK CATALOGER. One of¢ the easiest cataloger you have ever¢ used. You just place one disk after¢ the other into the disk drive to¢ catalog them. It even writes the disk¢ number automatically. All the¢ programs are fully documented on side¢ 2. This great disk is $3.00 including¢ shipping. It is a disk you cannot be¢ without! Write to the librarian¢ HAROLD PEGLER and make the check¢ payable to RON FETZER.¢¢ DEMOS:¢¢ ALEX demoed the best MONOPOLY¢ GAME that we have ever seen on the 8-¢ Bit. McDonalds has placemats for¢ monopoly that will work with this¢ game. You do not need the placemats¢ however because the computer will¢ keep track of everything. You can¢ chose the color of red or black. The¢ computer rolls the dice¢ automatically. The graphics are true¢ to the games colors & outstanding the¢ scrolling is great and the game is¢ just wonderful. It is a PD game. On¢ side two we have some great graphics¢ from Europe. This disk is # 270 in¢ the library.¢ ALEX showed CARDSTAX.BAS¢ program. We only saw the demo of the¢ program. You can use P.S. Icons,¢ Micro Painter pictures with text, and¢ use a pointer on the menu. ALEX wrote¢ to the author. We hope to get a¢ version w/DOCS soon. You can print¢ out the text and pictures in various¢ formats. We also have TURBO-BASIC 1.4¢ for the 800 computers. It is in our¢ library. It is on Side 2. It is disk¢ #272 in our library.¢ ALEX showed the HALLE PROJECT¢ disk from Europe. Great music and¢ graphics. The graphics are just¢ fantastic. The library number will be¢ #271.¢ Next we saw the MEGA BLAST game.¢ This disk was made in the¢ Netherlands. This is a shoot 'em up¢ game - VERY HARD to play. This is for¢ the advanced game player. Great¢ action and graphics. Can become very¢ addictive. We all tried it and did¢ not do too well. Disk # 273¢ ALEX showed a disk on¢ Music. Side 2 showed a tutorial on¢ ASSEMBLY LANGUAGE. A must have disk¢ if you are studying Assembly¢ Language. Disk # 274.¢ JACK GEDALIUS demonstrated a¢ 1020 PRINTER PLOTTER. He showed us¢ how to do graphs, pictures and text.¢ He showed us the extreme fine¢ scrolling that this plotter can do.¢ He then demoed how to make a random¢ design in various colors. JACK showed¢ how the plotter could draw a castle. ¢ He showed us how it can make a PIE¢ CHART. The little machine is really¢ fantastic. It computes the¢ percentages and does the whole chart¢ automatically. Really very neat. This¢ was another great demonstration by¢ JACK. Very well prepared and very¢ interesting, as usual.¢ ALEX showed a program called¢ DESK TOP.#274 in the library. On side¢ two it has MAC.DOS It is a graphics¢ interface for our 8-Bit. Very nice -¢ if that is your interest. The 8-bit¢ equivalent to the I.B.M. Windows¢ environment. MAC*.DOS Ver. 1.0¢ supports sub-directories and volume¢ names and some other great goodies.¢ This is for you DOS junkies!¢ ALEX showed MAGIC DOM Nov/Dec.¢ 1992. It will be # 275 in our¢ library. It has MAJONG.ARC,¢ CASSETTE(AUDIO) LABEL PRINTING¢ PROGRAM, KEY OBJECT (PROGRAM YOUR¢ KEYS), MINER 25 (GAME), AMS SONGS,¢ THANKSGIVING PICTURE, BUDGET MAKER¢ and RUBICS CUBE. These programs are¢ on side one. We looked at the BUDGET¢ PROGRAM. The program is very neat and¢ figures out a budget for you. It¢ breaks down the budget into %. On¢ side #2 we have NUT CRACKER (SONG¢ AMS), AG DEMO (VIDEO GAME),FD¢ DISEASE, TITLE CARD (Upgraded and¢ CORRECTED version. CREATE YOUR OWN¢ TITLES), ROGER RABBIT (PICTURE FILE),¢ BETTY BOOP PICTURE, PEWEE and a¢ digitized sound track, NORAD. ¢ ==>For OHAUG members 5 disks for¢ $8.00 including shipping or $3.00¢ each<==¢ We saw another MAGIC DOM Jan/Feb¢ 1993. Library # 276. MOVE IN AND UP¢ (SONG AMS), SHEAN (GRAPHICS DEMO), K-¢ BURT (GAME)and CITYBOMB, BACKGAMON.¢ We saw the game BACKGAMON. You can¢ play against the computer or 2 can¢ play. A very nice game - great¢ graphics (Improved version). This is¢ for you game junkies! Side #2 has a¢ game called CIRCUS it is a PINBALL¢ game. Very nice and very colorful.¢ ALEX played and won. I wonder what¢ ALEX did in his youth?¢ We tried to boot a disk in¢ double density - ADVENTURERS¢ COMPANION and side two has a GAME on¢ it.¢ We saw SILENT PARTNER a spread¢ sheet program, BUSY PLOT, SIDEWAYS¢ PRINTER, SPEED CALC, B-CALC, CALC-¢ MAGIC and PROFESSIONAL DEMO. Docs are¢ on both sides. It is compatible with¢ many printers. It is library disk #¢ 277. This is a disk from England.¢ (Disk has a mistake on it. We will¢ try to get a new copy).¢ We saw DISK MASTER with docs. On¢ side 2 we saw DISK WIZZARD. This is¢ #278 in our library. If you have a¢ disk problem or a messed up file,¢ this is the disk for you. The DISK¢ EDIT section was VERY impressive!¢ We saw ColorSquash. Library¢ #279. This program takes RGB pictures¢ and converts them to our format¢ (Composite). We saw some great¢ pictures on the disk. It is fully¢ documented.¢ We saw a new computer language¢ called QUICK. It is going all over¢ Europe. The demo played only music.¢ We also saw a shoot 'em up game made¢ w/QUICK. Can't evaluate the language.¢ I did not see the docs. Library disk¢ # 280.¢¢ CORRESPONDENCE:¢¢ The CONNECTICUT ATARI FEST is on¢ June 12 & 13. A couple members plan¢ on going.¢ A message from JOHN AALTO of¢ LIAUG. JOHN message was on THE NEW¢ NEST BBS. He mentions that the BBS¢ has a lot of 8-Bit material on it. He¢ said "I and many other members have a¢ close affinity and respect for the¢ OL'HACKERS. ALEX PIGNATO and the OL'¢ HACKERS are constantly coming up in¢ other Atari Newsletters. They make¢ the phrase 'THE 8-BIT IS DEAD'¢ laughable..." We thank JOHN for his¢ kind words.¢ A message from DUTCH LEONARD.¢ Topic: MY VIEWS. "Yes the OL'HACKERS¢ seem to be one of the last strong 8-¢ Bit clubs left in the nation. That¢ may be an excellent idea. One¢ magazine, one club and pool our¢ efforts." I know there are other¢ great 8 BIT clubs around, no thanks¢ to ATARI!¢ We got a letter from our¢ member LARRY TISHBEIN in PA. He¢ thanked us for the help ALEX gave him¢ with a word processor problem. He¢ said we have a great system of¢ helping out any member with a¢ problem.¢ A letter from our member DANE¢ STEGMAN in Akron N.Y. He has a¢ problem with AWARD WARE. He has a¢ problem using 2 drives, one being an¢ XF551, with this program. HAROLD¢ PEGLER will answer him and straighten¢ out the problem.¢ A letter from JIM CUTLER our¢ member from England. He says that¢ DAVE EWENS and his merry men who put¢ out TWAUG, are doing quite a good job¢ with the disk magazine they publish,¢ we agree!.¢ A letter from TOM ANDREWS our¢ member from Upstate N.Y. He¢ complimented ALEX on the fantastic¢ job on the article in CURRENT NOTES¢ on the OL' HACKERS. He said ALEX¢ makes the OL' HACKERS sound like an¢ oasis in the desert.¢ A letter from DAVE EWENS our¢ member from England. He thanked ALEX¢ for the nice comments on their¢ newsletter disk which they printed.¢ They have about 80 subscribers. They¢ are receiving many articles and¢ reviews.
