  6. Release Notes
  7. -------------
  8. This is v2.19 of the Stealth64 Video 2001 Windows v3.1 Driver disk.
  9.  
  10. Windows Installation Notes
  11. --------------------------
  12. Use the INSTALL program to install the Windows 3.1 drivers from DOS
  13. or from the Windows Program Manager.
  14.  
  15. *  Suggestion:  If you are upgrading from a previous version of the
  16.    Diamond InControl Tools, you should install from DOS, not from
  17.    within Windows.  This will bypass errors regarding any files that
  18.    may be in use and cause the installation to fail.
  19.                   
  20. *  Suggestion:  When running the Windows install, use MS VGA
  21.    to eliminate any OEM files that could create a conflict.
  22.  
  23. *  When running a windows install, if the install says 
  24.    "file in use, abort/continue" and the file in question is 
  25.    a font (*.FON) file, continue the install.
  26.  
  27. *  If strange errors occur and text is missing from dialogs,
  28.    check for .VBX files in your \WINDOWS directory.  .VBX files
  29.    should only reside in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM sub-directory.
  30.  
  31. Once the driver launches Windows, you will be placed in 640x480
  32. 256-color mode and prompted to select your monitor type.  Select 
  33. the brand monitor you have, compatible type, or use the Custom 
  34. Monitor Timings to create your own configuration and custom 
  35. screen centering.
  36.  
  37. *  Icon fonts are controlled by InControl Tools.  When changing
  38.    modes back to VGA or a non-Diamond driver, these settings
  39.    still remain.  To change back to default icon font, search
  40.    the WIN.INI file for the IconTypeFace, IconTypeStyle, and
  41.    IconTypeSize lines.  Place a semicolon (;) in front of these
  42.    lines or remove the lines entirely.
  43.  
  44. *  Only resolutions that have been selected as supported in the
  45.    Display module will be available in the Viewport choices.  If
  46.    your monitor can display a resolution provided by the card,
  47.    go to Display and select a monitor that offers that mode and
  48.    refresh, or select Custom Monitor Timings and Add the mode.
  49.  
  50. *  If Windows only displays a single alphabetic character for the
  51.    icon font, select a different font from the list of InControl
  52.    Tools.  Windows may not support the font type/size requested
  53.    in the resolution and resource size displayed.
  54.  
  55. *  If you had screen savers loaded previously, and they seem not
  56.    to load on startup any longer, see the message at the top 
  57.    regarding backing up important files and the limitation down
  58.    below of LOAD= line being replaced and not appended.  This is
  59.    a limitation of the Windows 3.xx SETUP program. This does not
  60.    occur with the Diamond install.

  62.  
  63. Trouble Shooting Suggestions
  64. ----------------------------
  65. All of the options listed below are to be added into a section called
  66. [STLTH64.DRV].  This section is not created during the installation
  67. of the Diamond drivers and InControl Tools.  You must manually add this
  68. section.  It should be added to the end of the SYSTEM.INI.
  69.  
  70.  
  71. *  If you are experiencing random lock-ups in Windows you can add the
  72.    following line to the [STLTH64.DRV] section of the SYSTEM.INI. This
  73.    type of lock-up may occur with applications that interrogate the
  74.    systems memory searching for virill.
  75.  
  76.      LEAVEMMIODISABLED=1  --  This is set to 0 by default.
  77.  
  78. *  If you are encountering some lock-ups during heavy DMA transfers or
  79.    your motherboard supports bus time-outs then you may try setting
  80.    the following option in the [STLTH64.DRV] section of your SYSTEM.INI
  81.  
  82.      BUSYCHECK=ON  --  This is set to OFF by default.
  83.  
  84. *  If you are using Lenny Music Tunes, Microsoft Art Gallery, Small
  85.    Blue Planet, Ocean Below, Vampire's Coffin, D-Day, all of the
  86.    Brightstart education CD's, and other similar applications, you
  87.    will want to add the following line to the [STLTH64.DRV] section
  88.    of the SYSTEM.INI.  This will correct the corrupted screens you
  89.    may experience during animation sequences.
  90.  
  91.      DEVICEBITMAPS=1 -- This is set to 0 by default.
  92.  
  93.    With the fix enabled you may possibly experience compatibility issues
  94.    with other programs; one confirmed problem is with Adobe Illustrator
  95.    v4.01.
  96.  
  97.  
  98.    * IMPORTANT NOTE:  This is a problem with the way bitmaps are treated
  99.                       by the application. This is not a deficiency in the
  100.                       driver.  We have provided a means to correct this
  101.                       issue, until the software vendor rectifies the problem.
  102.                       All Edutainment vendors have been made aware of the
  103.                       problem and are currently taking steps to correct the
  104.                       bitmap issue.
  105.  
  106. *  Important Note for VLB Card users.  If you are experiencing problems
  107.    entering Windows v3.1, in 640x480x8bpp, or greater you can relocate
  108.    the Linear Address of the Stealth 64 Series.  Add the following line
  109.    into the [STLTH64.DRV] section of the SYSTEM.INI.
  110.  
  111.      MEMADDR=xxxx --  This is set to 7C00 by default.
  112.  
  113.      Where xxxx can be only ONE of the following options:
  114.         8000
  115.         0100
  116.         0200
  117.         0400

  136. Problems Addressed
  137. ------------------

  140. The following items require a SYSTEM.INI switch be changed:

  143.  1024x768x8/16/32bpp, D-Day select Media Tour Menu and by
  144.  Theme | select Army topics and choose
  145.  "Artillery : Allied AntiTank Weapons" | No video displayed
  146.  (or fragmented video displayed)
  147.  
  148.  All resolutions All Color depths, The Vampires's Coffin,
  149.  At the intro screen, the screen will fade in and
  150.  out very very slowly.  PROJECTR caused a GPF in module
  151.  GDI.EXE @ 0001:0F6A
  152.  
  153.  All resolutions, 8bpp, Lenny's Music Toons, Horizontal
  154.  line appears and picture is corrupt.
  155.  
  156.  All resolutions, 8bpp, MS Art Gallery, picture appears
  157.  corrupt.
  158.  
  159. Known Restrictions:
  160. -------------------
  161.  
  162.  Video playback - if you encounter pixelized video, disable video 
  163.  acceleration or switch to a lower refresh rate.  Note, this is a 
  164.  chipset limitation.
  165.  
  166.  If you have a sound card installed in your PC, you will need
  167.  to disable the Internal Mix Manager for InControl Tools.  This is done
  168.  throught the Audio button, a check box in the lower left corner marked
  169.  "Disable Mixer" will enable/disable the mixer.
  170.  
  171.  DCI has limitations in it's abilities to maintain the pallete in 8bpp modes.
  172.  This problem will exist in Microsoft's Encarta `95, and Comptons Encyclopdia.
  173.  
  174.  Dinosaur Safari from Creative Media.  This product does not operate properly
  175.  under Windows, the vendor can be contacted at 503-241-1530.
  176.  
  177.  You cannot center any modes under "User Defined..." until you restart
  178.  Windows.
  179.  
  180.  800x600x32bpp, 1024x768x32bpp, Small Blue Planet, "Runtime
  181.  Error : Stack Overflow" when the  application is loaded.
  182.  NOTE: This will occur with ALL 32bpp drivers.
  183.  
  184.  All resolutions, 16/24bpp, Paintbrush, Print to HP
  185.  LaserJet 4 | Prints nothing.
  186.  
  187.  Run Landmark Speed - it will drop you to a dos prompt.
  188.  This is a limitation of the application, if you
  189.  run a DX2/66 in non-turbo mode, the program will work
  190.  fine, in turbo mode the system hangs, this is a
  191.  issue with the application itself, not the driver.
  192.  
  193.  Some monitors which do not support DPMS will start scrolling until
  194.  entering into Sleep mode.
  195.
