  24. Differences between the retail and demonstration versions of SystemScanTools.
  25.  
  26. The retail version allows:
  27.      1) printing results of scans
  28.      2) saving scan results to files
  29.      3) stopping processes
  30.      4) viewing the "users" of active processes (i.e. Which program is dynamically
  31. linked to a DLL)
  32.      5) deleting files
  33.      6) scanning drives other than the "C:" drive
  34.      7) DLL database scanning (see DLL.DAT in the help file)
  35.      8) Miscellaneous hardware and system software information.
  36.      9) Viewing version information for 32 bit NT and Win95 files.

  38. Also: Limitation on total number of scanned files is raised from 4499 to 32499

  41. Removing SystemScanTools Demonstration from your hard disk.
  42.  
  43. This installation of SystemScanTools Demonstration consists of these files placed
  44. in the suggested directory C:\sysscan:
  45.  
  46.      1) sysscan.exe
  47.      2) sysscan.hlp
  48.      3) readme.txt
  49.      4) logfile.out
  50.      5) toolhelp.dll
  51.      6) ver.dll
  52.  
  53. Setup for SystemScanTools places these files on your hard disk.  If you wish to
  54. remove SystemScanTools from your computer, take the following steps:
  55.  
  56.     1)  Start File Manager or equivalent
  57.     2)  Select the directory that SystemScanTools was installed into.
  58.     (Typically C:\sysscan)
  59.     3)  Delete the directory by selecting FILE, then DELETE.
  60.     4)  Exit File Manager.
  61.     5)  Select the SystemScanTools group in Program Manager.
  62.     6)  Delete the SystemScanTools icons by selecting them one at a time so
  63. they are highlighted, then pressing the delete key for each one.
  64.     7)  Delete the SystemScanTools group by selecting it and pressing delete.
  65.     8)  The removal of SystemScanTools from you system is now complete.
  66.  
  67. SystemScanTools does not install any DLLs in the Windows or Windows\System directories.
  68.  
  69. SystemScanTools creates a SYSSCAN.INI file in the \Windows directory.  It may be deleted.

  131. The following license agreement covers the retail and demonstration versions
  132. of SystemScanTools except as noted.

  134.                   SYSTEMSCANTOOLS SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT
  135.  
  136. THIS IS A LEGAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU, THE LICENSEE, AND KIRK V. THOMAS ("AUTHOR") dba
  137. Northwest Performance Software. 
  138. BY USING THIS PROGRAM, YOU ARE AGREEING TO BECOME BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT.
  139. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, PROMPTLY RETURN THE DISK PACKAGE
  140. AND THE ACCOMPANYING ITEMS (INCLUDING WRITTEN MATERIALS AND BINDERS AND PACKAGING) TO
  141. THE PLACE YOU OBTAINED THEM FOR A FULL REFUND.

  144. LIMITATIONS FOR SYSTEMSCANTOOLS DEMONSTRATION VERSION.  This paragraph applies only
  145. to SystemScanTools Demonstration: The AUTHOR grants to you a nonexclusive royalty-free,
  146. right to make and use an unlimited number of copies of SystemScanTools Demonstration,
  147. provided that each copy shall be a true and complete copy, including all copyright and
  148. trademark notices.  The paragraphs entitled "Limited Warranty" and "Customer Remedies"
  149. do not apply to SystemScanTools Demonstration.  All other paragraphs not specifically
  150. named are retained and apply in full.  NO WARRANTIES.  The AUTHOR expressly disclaims
  151. any warranty for SystemScanTools Demonstration. SystemScanTools Demonstration and any
  152. related documentation is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, either express
  153. or implied, including without limitation, the implied warranties or merchantability,
  154. fitness for a particular purpose, or infringement.  The entire risk arising out of use
  155. or performance of SystemScanTools Demonstration remains with you.  This concludes the
  156. paragraph entitled Limitations for SystemScanTools Demonstration Version.

  159. GRANT OF LICENSE.  The author grants to you the right to use one copy of the enclosed
  160. software program, SystemScanTools, (the "SOFTWARE") on a single computer.  The SOFTWARE
  161. is in "use" on a computer when it is loaded into temporary memory (i.e. RAM) or installed
  162. into permanent memory (e.g. hard disk, CD-ROM disk, or other storage device) of that
  163. computer.  However, installation on a network server for the sole purpose of distribution
  164. to one or more other computer(s) shall not constitute "use" for which a separate license
  165. is required, provided you have a separate license for each computer to which the SOFTWARE
  166. is distributed.

  168. COPYRIGHT.  The SOFTWARE is owned by the AUTHOR and is protected by United States
  169. copyright laws and international treaty provisions.  Therefore, you must treat the
  170. SOFTWARE like and other copyrighted material (e.g. a book or musical recording) except
  171. that you may either (a) make one copy of the SOFTWARE solely for backup or archival
  172. purposes, or (b) transfer the SOFTWARE to a single hard disk provided you keep the original
  173. solely for backup or archival purposes.  You may not copy the written materials accompanying
  174. the SOFTWARE.

  176. OTHER RESTRICTIONS PART A.  (Does not apply to the demonstration version)
  177. You may not lease, rent or sub-license the SOFTWARE. You may transfer
  178. the SOFTWARE and accompanying written materials on a permanent basis provided you retain
  179. no copies and the recipient agrees to the terms of this Agreement.

  183. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the SOFTWARE.

  185.                                    LIMITED WARRANTY
  186.  
  187. LIMITED WARRANTY. (Does not apply to the demonstration version)  The AUTHOR warrants that
  188. the SOFTWARE is properly recorded on the disk media.  This warranty extends for sixty (60)
  189. days from the date of purchase.  There is no warranty after the expiration of the warranty
  190. period.

  192. CUSTOMER REMEDIES. (Does not apply to the demonstration version)  The AUTHOR's entire
  193. liability and your exclusive remedy shall be, at the AUTHOR's option, either (a) return of
  194. the price paid, or (b) repair or replacement of the SOFTWARE that does not meet the AUTHOR's
  195. Limited Warranty and which is returned to the AUTHOR with a copy of your receipt.  This
  196. Limited Warranty is void if failure of the SOFTWARE has resulted from accident, abuse, or
  197. misapplication.  Any replacement SOFTWARE will be warranted for the remainder of the original
  198. warranty period or 30 days, whichever is longer.  In no event shall the AUTHOR's liability
  199. exceed the purchase price of the SOFTWARE.

  201. NO OTHER WARRANTIES.  To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the AUTHOR disclaims
  202. all other warranties, either expressed or implied, including, but not limited to, implied
  203. warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, with regard to the
  204. SOFTWARE, the accompanying written materials, and any accompanying hardware.  This limited
  205. warranty gives you specific legal rights.  You may have others which vary from state to state.

  207. NO LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. (Applies to both the Demonstration and Retail Versions)
  208. In no event shall the AUTHOR or his suppliers be
  209. liable for any damages whatsoever (including, without limitation, damages for loss of
  210. business profits, business interruption, loss of business information, or any other pecuniary
  211. loss) arising out of the use of or inability to use the SOFTWARE, even if the AUTHOR has
  212. been advised of the possibility of such damages.  Because some states/jurisdictions do not
  213. allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for consequential or incidental damages, the
  214. above limitation may not apply to you.
