The MIDI signals can be directed to the synthesizer chip on your sound card or to an external MIDI synthesizer. Before continuing with this tutorial, you should make sure Guitar Workshop is configured to work properly with your sound card. Click the mouse anywhere on the fretboard above- if you heard a sound, you can continue. If not, you need to use the SETUP button to configure your sound card. There is a short lesson on using the SETUP button. If you do not hear anything when clicking on the fretboard, you should exit out of this tutorial [press the EXIT button on the Lesson Control window) and then load the SETUP lesson.
