  44.  
  45.         This file explains how to setup and to configure the ELSA
  46.         Windows NT driver software for your ELSA graphics board.
  47.  
  48. 1.1     Requirements
  49.  
  50.         This driver software runs on an ELSA GLoria II only.
  51.

  54.         For more information on configuring installed ELSA graphics
  55.         drivers, refer to the Windows Help or to the help files for 
  56.         the ELSA Utilities.

  60. 2       Installation
  61.  
  62.         NOTE: This driver was designed for full functionality
  63.               under Windows NT 4.0 only!
  64.  
  65.         There are several ways to install the ELSA graphics driver:
  66.         - Automatic installation by ELSA Setup Utility  (2.1)
  67.         - Via the Windows dialog "Display Properties"   (2.2)
  68.  
  69.         NOTE: We recomend using the automatic installation!
  70.  
  71.         NOTE: First install the Standard-VGA driver, then shut down
  72.               your computer and exchange the graphics board with
  73.               the GLoria II.
  74.  
  75. 2.1     Automatic installation with the ELSA Setup Utility
  76.  
  77.         First of all, start Windows NT. To run SETUP.EXE then, you
  78.         can either double click on the filename in the Microsoft
  79.         Explorer or choose "Run..." in the "Start" menu. Then you
  80.         have to enter the complete path to the file "SETUP.EXE".
  81.         Confirm with "OK".
  82.     
  83.         NOTE: Please close all programs before running Setup - 
  84.               especially other ELSA utilities.
  85.  
  86.         NOTE: Detailed information for the ELSA Setup Utility can
  87.               be found in the Setup_en.txt file.

  89. 2.1.1   Installation on an Intel(R) Pentium III system
  90.  
  91.         While installing the ELSA driver the program
  92.         CheckPentiumIIISupport may ask you to update your
  93.         Windows NT 4.0 installation. In this case you are using an
  94.         Intel(R) Pentium III processor, but the Intel(R) Streaming
  95.         SIMD extension driver for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 service
  96.         pack 4 is NOT installed. This additional driver is
  97.         required for ELSA SIMDream(TM). You'll find this necessary
  98.         Intel driver on the WINNERware-CD in the directory: 
  99.         \WINWARE\MSAPPS\INTP3SUP\websetup.exe.
  100.        
  101.         Service Pack 5 already contains this driver.
  102.  
  103. 2.2     Manual Installation via Display Properties
  104.  
  105.         In the Taskbar/Start/Settings, click on "Control Panel" and
  106.         then select "Display Properties". Alternatively, you can
  107.         right-click the desktop and in the appearing popup menu,
  108.         select "Properties". Select "Settings" and then "Display
  109.         Type". In the upcoming window you can use the "Change"
  110.         button to select your ELSA graphics board. You will get the
  111.         "Change Display" dialog box with a variety of available
  112.         drivers.

  114.         On the lower right-hand of the dialog box select the button
  115.         "Other...". The dialog "Install from disk" appears with an
  116.         indication of path or floppy drive ("A:\"). Change the
  117.         entry to the path where the driver files for your board are
  118.         located (e.g."\GLoriaII\WINNT40") and confirm with
  119.         "Continue". Now a list of ELSA graphics drivers is
  120.         displayed. Select the driver for your board. Confirm the
  121.         dialog. The driver is installed after confirming the
  122.         warning that a third-party driver will be installed.
  123.  
  124.         NOTE: Under Windows NT 4.0, graphics drivers cannot be
  125.               loaded dynamically. This is a limitation of the 
  126.               operating system.

  128.         To activate the ELSA driver the computer has to be
  129.         restarted. Please press "Yes" in the upcoming dialog.
  130.         The system will reboot and the initial installation is
  131.         finished.
  132.  
  133.         The initial installation of ELSA drivers for Microsoft
  134.         Windows NT 4.0 installs the driver at a resolution of
  135.         640*480 pixel at 60Hz refresh.
  136.  
  137.         NOTE: With the installation of the Windows NT 4.0 driver,
  138.               the ELSA OpenGL driver is automatically installed.

  140. 2.3     Determining the Driver Version Number
  141.  
  142. 2.3.1   Determining the Driver Version Number via Display Properties
  143.  
  144.         From the Start menu, select "Settings" and in the Control
  145.         Panel launch "Display". Select the tab "Settings" and then
  146.         the button "Change configuration...". The following dialog
  147.         gives information about the manufacturer, the version
  148.         number and the current driver files.
  149.  
  150.         NOTE: If you see "Version Information missing ", you did
  151.               not set US English as the system language. This
  152.               problem will appear in all non-American NT
  153.               installations. This is a limitation of the
  154.               operating system.
  155.  
  156. 2.3.2   Determining the Driver Version Number via the Driver Files
  157.  
  158.         Use the Explorer to inspect the file properties for one of
  159.         the files EGLIIM.SYS or EGLIID.DLL. The file EGLIIM.SYS
  160.         can be found in the directory System32\Drivers, the *.DLL 
  161.         file in the System32 directory of your Windows NT 
  162.         installation.

  166. 3       Additional Configuration Options

  168. 3.1     Additional Tools
  169.  
  170. 3.1.1   ELSA WinmanSuite
  171.  
  172.         ELSA WinmanSuite is a tool which integrates in the taskbar
  173.         of your Operating system. Klicking the mouse on the tray
  174.         icon, you will get quick access to all installed ELSA
  175.         utilities.
  176.  
  177. 3.1.2   ELSA Hotkeys
  178.  
  179.         Using the ELSA Hotkeys, you will now be able to define
  180.         shortcuts for certain actions. You can use this tool to
  181.         start frequently used programs, or to change the
  182.         arrangement of windows on your desktop. You will find this
  183.         tool as a tab in the display properties or as a menu item
  184.         in the WinmanSuite.
  185.         You will get a detailed description of the whole
  186.         functionality by clicking on the toolｴs help button.

  188. 3.1.3   ELSA Application Settings
  189.  
  190.         The ELSA Application Settings allow you to configure the 3D
  191.         options of your ELSA GLoria graphics board. You will find
  192.         this tool as a tab in the display properties or as a menu
  193.         item in the WinmanSuite.
  194.         You also will find a detailed description by clicking the
  195.         Help key.

  197. 3.1.4   ELSA Info
  198.  
  199.         ELSA Info offers a quick view of all relevant information
  200.         about your hard- and software configuration. First of all, 
  201.         this is a diagnostic tool, which should help you in solving
  202.         configuration problems of your graphics system. 
  203.         You can redirect all shown information to file or printer.
  204.         The generated output will be helpful in getting quick 
  205.         and efficient support from ELSA.
  206.  
  207. 3.1.5   ELSA Settings
  208.  
  209.         The ELSA Settings (Winman) are a sort of "Control Center"
  210.         for the display driver. Here you can change the basic
  211.         display functionality, as there are resolution, colordepth,
  212.         refreshrate.
  213.         You are also able to configure your monitor. A detailed 
  214.         description of all possible settings is available by
  215.         clicking the mouse on the question mark in the upper right
  216.         corner of the window, and then on the area you need help
  217.         for. Now you will get a message box with a short help. By
  218.         clicking "OK", you get a detailed help.

  220. 3.1.6   ELSA GAMMAControl
  221.  
  222.         The ELSA GAMMAControl tool allows you to correct the color
  223.         reproduction of your monitor. You will find
  224.         this tool as a tab in the display properties or as a menu
  225.         item in the WinmanSuite.
  226.         You also will find a detailed description by clicking the
  227.         Help key.

  232. 4       Known Problems
  233.  
  234.         - On Pentium III systems your Windows NT 4.0 has to be 
  235.           updated to support the Pentium III enhancements.
  236.           Please run the utility CheckPentiumIIISupport.exe 
  237.           (shipped with this driver) to check if your system is 
  238.           properly configured.
  239.           Service Pack 5 already contains this driver.

  241.         - On multiprocessor systems it may be necessary to install
  242.           Windows NT Service Pack 4 or 5 to get the driver started.
