  1.                           TROUBLESHOOTING GODDESS

  3. GODDESS STOPS PLAYING AND ANOTHER SCREENSAVER STARTS PLAYING:
  4.   Be sure to disable any other Windows screensavers before you use Goddess.
  5.  
  6. FILE ERROR: CANNOT FIND AAPLAY.DLL
  7.   Goddess requires the files AAPLAY.DLL and AAVGA.DLL to be present 
  8.   in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory to run properly.  If these files 
  9.   have been removed from this archive, you may be able to find them on a 
  10.   local BBS.  They are also available in any of our screen savers at:
  11.   http://www.efn.org/~rayo/goddess.html

  13. FILE ERROR:  Error loading animation file:  <filename>
  14.   The animation load routine was unable to locate the animation or script
  15.   file, or there was an error in the script file.  Verify that that the
  16.   script file exists.  Then use a text editor (like Notepad) to verify each 
  17.   line in the script file contains a valid path and file name.
  18.  
  19. CORRUPTED DISPLAY or WON'T DISPLAY ANIMATIONS PROPERLY.
  20.   Be sure to disable any other Windows screensavers before you use
  21.   Goddess.  Try changing the Int 2f setting.  You may also need 
  22.   to restart Windows.

  24. SCREEN GOES BLANK AND/OR SYSTEM LOCKS UP WHEN GODDESS PLAYS ANIMATION
  25.   If you have already tried changing the Int 2f setting, your video drivers
  26.   may be incompatible with the animation player routines in AAPLAY.DLL.  
  27.   The ATI and Diamond video drivers appear to work fine with the AAPLAY 
  28.   routines.  If you aren't going to change video cards soon, and still 
  29.   want to play the animation, there are other FLI animation players 
  30.   available.  Check around on local BBS's for AAPLAY.EXE or QUICKFLI.EXE, 
  31.   two great freeware DOS animation players.  You can also probably find a 
  32.   player by checking on Compuserve, AOL, or other online information 
  33.   services.

  35. ANIMATION IS NOT PLAYING FULL SCREEN
  36.   Make sure that AAVGA.DLL is in the C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.  Sometimes
  37.   changing the Int 2f setting helps.  If you are using a 256 color desktop,
  38.   try changing to a 65K (high color or 16 bit) or 16.7M (true color or 24 
  39.   bit) color setting.  Win95 users may need to disable any desktop 
  40.   "Navigator" type programs to get full screen animation.  Make sure no 
  41.   other screen saver drivers are being loaded.  Make sure you have the 
  42.   latest versions of your video card drivers.

  44. MIDI WARNING DIALOG APPEARS BUT NO CURSOR IS PRESENT
  45.   This annoying problem occurs when Windows detects a non-standard header
  46.   on the MIDI file being accessed by your script.  Unfortunately, Goddess
  47.   has hidden the cursor at this point, making it nearly impossible to 
  48.   select the little checkbox that will disable the warning.  Fear not, the 
  49.   solution is at hand.  Hold down the <Alt> key and press <F4>.  A dotted 
  50.   line will appear around the checkbox and its associated text.  Now press 
  51.   the spacebar.  An "X" will appear in the little checkbox.  Press enter 
  52.   and the warning will be gone the next time you start Goddess.  Should 
  53.   you wish to reenable the warning:  Open the file c:\windows\system.ini in 
  54.   any text editor (like Notepad).  Find the section beginning with:
  55.   [mciseq.drv]  
  56.   Find the entry:  disablewarning=true  
  57.   and change it to read:   disablewarning=false
  58.   Save the file and exit.  The warning will now reappear.
