1) System Requirements (NBA Live 99 Full version)
===========================================================
IMPORTANT!
The graphics for NBA Live 99 establish a new level of quality previously unseen in
a PC basketball game. To achieve this, we have taken advantage of the power of
the newest high-speed CPUs. We recognize that not everyone has one of these
powerful machines, so we have included numerous graphics detail options that
allow the game to be enjoyed on slower machines. We strongly recommend that
you experiment with these options to find a display speed that lets you enjoy
the game to its fullest.

===========================================================
4) Memory Tips
===========================================================
> WINDOWS 95 MEMORY
NBA Live 99 requires 16 MB of physical memory, and also requires that virtual
memory be enabled (this can be enabled using "System" in the Windows
Control Panel); we advise that you permit Windows 95 to manage the amount
of virtual memory automatically.
===========================================================
5) Sound System Tips
===========================================================
> WINDOWS 95 SOUND
Make sure you have the correct Windows 95 drivers for your sound card installed.
(Refer to the sound card documentation provided by the manufacturer). Your
sound card and driver must have DirectSound support in order for NBA Live 99 to
run properly. If your sound card driver does not support DirectSound you may
experience choppy or stuttering sound, or sound that cuts in and out. During DirectX
installation, the DirectX setup program attempts to install a DirectSound supported
driver for your sound card. If your sound card driver does not support DirectSound,
the DirectX setup program attempts to replace your existing sound card driver. Please
consult your sound card manufacturer for updated drivers if DirectSound drivers are not
available with the included DirectX 5 files from Microsoft.
Should you ever replace your existing sound card with a different one, follow the
manufacturer's instructions for installing the new card. Once you've verified that
the sound card works properly under Windows 95, run the game again and it
should automatically be detected; it should not be necessary to run the installer
again to configure the game for your new sound card.
Note that Slower CD-ROM drives may cause audio to stutter between menu
screens under Windows 95.
===========================================================
6) Video Tips
===========================================================
> WINDOWS 95 VIDEO PROBLEMS
Choppy or stuttering video or audio problems while running in Windows 95 may be
corrected by adjusting the CD-ROM read-ahead caching. This option is available
by right-clicking on your local drive, selecting Properties, then Performance, File
System, CD-ROM and choosing "Optimize access pattern for quad-speed or higher"
from the menu. The "Supplemental Cache Size" should be set to minimum. Setting
this to maximum will not improve performance in NBA LIVE 99, and may actually
harm performance by reserving RAM that would otherwise be available for the
game.
>Diamond Viper Pro
You may experience problems with the Diamond Viper Pro video card with some of
EA's games. If you are experiencing difficulties, you can disable PCI burst mode
transfers in your PC's BIOS setup. If your PC's BIOS does not have this feature,
Diamond supplies a utility that you can use to disable PCI burst mode transfers. If
you have access to the Internet, you can download the utility at Diamond's FTP site at
ftp://ftp.diamondmm.com/pub/misc/burst.exe.
>Oak Driver Package 6.01
We have experienced problems using Oak Driver Package 6.01 with NBA 99 PCCD.
Avoid using this version of the driver package. Use Oak Driver Package Version 4.01
for best results.
>Tseng Labs W32p PCI Video Card
We have experienced poor performance problems using the Microsoft provided
"Tseng Labs ET4000/W32 PCI" drivers and NBA LIVE 99. We recommend that
you use the latest Tseng Labs provided "Tseng Labs ET4000/W32 PCI" drivers
for better results.
>Trident TGUI9680 Video Card
With this Trident card, we have experienced problems with the driver installed
by DirectX 5. Please use your standard Trident TGUI9680 driver for better results.
>Sierra Screamin 3D PCI Drivers
We have experienced problems when NBA LIVE 99 is run with the "Sierra
Screamin'3D PCI" v.4.03.00.9001-1.13 driver. This can be taken care of when
Direct X5 is installed. At that time, DirectX 5 will prompt you to replace the existing
drivers with the Certified "Rendition Verite 100" drivers (which work with NBA 99).
Direct X5 will recommend that you choose YES and replace your existing drivers. This
will correct the problem. If you choose not to replace the divers, you will continue to
experience problems running NBA LIVE 99. Keep in mind that this only happens with
the driver listed above. If you use the more recent driver "Sierra Screamin'3D PCI"
v.4.03.00.9001-2.10.06, NBA LIVE 99 will work fine.
===========================================================
7) Game Controller Tips
===========================================================
> NBA LIVE 99 CONTROLLERS
During gamplay, the keyboard may be used, however for maximum enjoyment
of NBA LIVE 99 we recommend using an analog joystick, Gravis Gamepad Pro,
or the Gravis GrIP during gameplay.
If the gameplay controller responds erratically during gameplay, you may need to
recalibrate it, or your game port may not be configured correctly. Refer to your
game/sound card documentation for configuration information.
> WINDOWS 95 CONTROLLER CALIBRATION
Windows 95 users that experience calibration or control problems with their
controllers may need to configure them properly using the Windows 95 Joystick
Control Panel. Once you have done this, run the game again.
Go to the Control Panel, click on the system icon, and select the Device Manger
tab. Make sure your gameport joystick driver is listed under Sound, video and
game controllers and is functioning properly.
Calibrate and choose your joystick configuration from the Control Panel. Click on
the Joystick Icon and select your joystick from the list. Click Calibrate and
follow the onscreen instructions to calibrate your joystick.
It is possible to experience problems calibrating Gravis Gamepads and Gamepad Pros
in Windows 95 using the Microsoft Gaming Devices applet that comes with Direct X5.
For best results when using any Gravis product, obtain the latest Gravis Grip drivers
from Advanced Gravis Computer Technology Ltd. at http://www.gravis.com.
> GRAVIS GRIP CALIBRATION
Make sure the Gravis GrIP is connect to the joystick port correctly. Make sure
that the switch on the Gravis MultiPort is switched to the left (4 port side), or
right if using a standard joystick. Make sure that the Gravis GrIP drivers are
installed (for Windows 95 or DOS depending on what you are running the game
from). If they are not, please refer to your GrIP documentation. Make sure
that the Gravis GrIP controls are calibrated under Windows 95 Gravis GrIP
Calibration in Windows 95:
1. Open the Control Panel and double click on the Joystick Icon.
2. Select Joystick 1 (current joystick)
3. Under Joystick Configuration select Gravis GrIP MultiPort, and click
Calibrate
4. Follow the on screen instructions. Then test the joystick by selecting Test.
5. Repeat the above procedures for Joysticks 2,3, and 4 if they are available.
Once these steps have been completed the green light should appear on the left
wing of the Gravis MultiPort.
===========================================================
8) 3-D Accelerator Tips
===========================================================
NBA LIVE 99 supports 3-D accelerators that use the 3Dfx Voodoo Graphics or
Voodoo Rush chipsets.
During install, NBA Live 99 will automatically detect your supported 3D accelerator
if it has been properly installed. The installation procedure will create an extra 3Dfx
NBA Live 99 icon in the Program Group and a 3Dfx shortcut icon on the desktop. These
icons will start the 3-D accelerated version of the game.
If you experience problems with the detection of your supported 3-D accelerator card,
please check the installation documentation provided with your 3-D accelerator card.
VOODOO GRAPHICS BOARDS
NBA LIVE 99 requires that you have the Glide run time drivers for the Voodoo Graphics
chipset installed on your system.
If you do not have the Glide run time drivers for the Voodoo Graphics chipset
installed or you have drivers older than version 2.42, the NBA LIVE 99 installation
program will start the Glide 2.42 installation which will install the Glide 2.42 driver
to your system. Alternatively, you may contact your board manufacturer to obtain the
latest drivers for your board.
If you are using a version of the Glide run time drivers later than 2.42,
no Glide drivers are installed.
VOODOO RUSH BOARDS
NBA LIVE 99 requires that you have the glide 2.42 or higher run time drivers specific
for the Voodoo Rush chipset installed on your system. If you do not have the Glide
run time drivers for the Voodoo Rush chipset installed or you have driver older than
version 2.42, the NBA LIVE 99 installation program will start the Glide 2.42
installation which will install the Glide 2.42 driver to your system. Alternatively,
you may contact your board manufacturer to obtain the latest drivers for your board.
If you do not have a Voodoo Rush Glide 2.4 or higher run time driver installed
on your system, please contact your board manufacturer.
Note: There is a rare bug with the 3Dfx detect function in the Glide 2.42 Installer
which will prevent it from detecting your 3Dfx properly. When you install the game,
if you get a message that reads "Error: Can not detect hardware", press OK until the
setup continues and install the game as normal. If you get the error message, you will
also not be able to install Glide 2.42 from the CD-ROM. In this case, if you have
problems running NBA Live 99, please download the newest version of the Glide drivers
from the 3Dfx web site at www.3dfx.com.

9) Gameplay Performance Tips
===========================================================
If gameplay is not as smooth or responsive as desired, there are several things
that can be done to improve performance. In general, your computer's CPU
speed will be the most important measure of performance, but memory
configuration and CD-ROM configuration can also affect performance. Refer to
Memory Tips and CD-ROM tips earlier in this document.
> WINDOWS 95 PERFORMANCE
To ensure maximum performance, ensure that no other Windows 95 applications
are running. Look at the Windows Task bar and close any applications that are
currently running.
> DETAIL SETTINGS
To improve speed and responsiveness in gameplay, you can use the "Details" screen
in the Pause menu to toggle various options on or off.
Details that may improve gameplay performance:
