  6. This file contains important information about installing SmartSuite
  7. for OS/2 Warp 4 Release 1.5.1, an update to SmartSuite Release 1.5.

  9. SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 is only available electronically. To obtain 
  10. the update, download the SmartSuite for OS/2 Warp 4 Release 1.5.1 
  11. Update executable (EXE) file from the Lotus Support Web site 
  12. (www.lotus.com/support). At a system prompt, change to the location 
  13. of the Update executable, type <filename> /d (where <filename> is the 
  14. appropriate language version file name), and then press ENTER.  All 
  15. files will be unzipped into the \OS2SS151 directory.
  16.  
  17. Note: The "/d" parameter unzips the subdirectories.
  18.  
  19. SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 includes:
  20.  
  21.  * Improved Microsoft Excel and Word filters in 1-2-3 and Word Pro
  22.  * Fixes for customer-reported issues

  32. original program (SmartSuite for OS/2 Warp 4 Release 1.5). To 
  33. view the license agreement, double-click the Lotus Software 
  34. License Directory folder in the Lotus Accessories folder.

  37. I. INSTALLING SMARTSUITE RELEASE 1.5.1

  43. A. System Requirements
  44. ----------------------
  45. The system requirements for SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 are the 
  46. same as the SmartSuite Release 1.5 requirements. For more 
  47. information, refer to Section I-1 in the SmartSuite Readme file 
  48. (README.TXT) located in the \LOTUSW4 directory.
  49.  
  50. Lotus recommends using the latest release of IBM OS/2 Warp 4 
  51. FixPak.
  52.  
  53. B. Installing SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 
  54. --------------------------------------
  55. SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 must be installed on a computer 
  56. with a pre-existing installation of SmartSuite Release 1.5, 
  57. since the files in SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 do not constitute 
  58. a complete product. You can verify your existing SmartSuite for 
  59. OS/2 release by selecting Help About xxxx (where xxxx is the 
  60. product name) from within any SmartSuite application. 
  61. If the release number is not 1.5, you must install SmartSuite 
  62. for OS/2 Warp 4 Release 1.5 before proceeding.
  63.  
  64. Note: The SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 Update Install Program does 
  65. not provide an option for a Custom Install. If you want to 
  66. add features to your pre-existing Release 1.5 installation, 
  67. you must re-install SmartSuite Release 1.5 using the Custom 
  68. Install option. When that installation is complete, install 
  69. SmartSuite Release 1.5.1.
  70.  
  71. Installing SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 on a stand-alone computer
  72. or file server: 
  73. -------------------------------------------------------------
  74. 1. Close all Lotus SmartSuite for OS/2 applications. If you are 
  75.    installing on a server, make sure that no network clients 
  76.    are using the SmartSuite applications.
  77.    
  78. 2. Change to the \OS2SS151 directory.
  79.  
  80. 3. Type UPDATE and press ENTER to start the Update Install Program.
  81.  
  82. 4. If you are installing on a stand-alone computer, skip to step 7.
  83.  
  84. 5. If you are installing on a file server, select Install on a file 
  85.    server in the Welcome to the Lotus Install Program (Update) dialog 
  86.    box, and then click Next.
  87.  
  88. 6. In the File Server Install or Network Distribution (Update) 
  89.    dialog box, select File server, and then click Next.
  90.  
  91.    Note: SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 does not require node installations. 
  92.    When you install SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 on the file server, the 
  93.    updated files are automatically available to the nodes. 
  94.  
  95. 7. Follow the instructions on the screen. Before copying files, 
  96.    the Update Install Program collects information and displays 
  97.    the directory location where SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 will be 
  98.    installed.
  99.  
  100. 8. Click Next to begin copying files and complete the installation.
  101.  
  102. When the installation is finished, you can delete the \OS2SS151 
  103. directory tree.
  104.  
  105. The Update Install Program will display an error message and exit
  106. if it encounters an irregularity in the pre-existing installation or
  107. if SmartSuite Release 1.5 is not installed. For more information 
  108. about error conditions, refer to the Troubleshooting section below.
  109.  
  110. Installing SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 for network distribution:
  111. -------------------------------------------------------------
  112. To install SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 for network distribution 
  113. to NEW users, follow the instructions in "Installing SmartSuite 
  114. Release 1.5.1 on a stand-alone computer or file server" above. 
  115. In step 6, select Network distribution and then click Next.
  116.  
  117. The SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 updated files are NOT automatically 
  118. available to pre-existing SmartSuite installations. To update 
  119. pre-existing SmartSuite Release 1.5 installations, install 
  120. SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 to a stand-alone computer or file
  121. server, following the instructions in the preceding section.  
  122.  
  123. Installing SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 using CID 
  124. (Configuration, Installation, and Distribution):
  125. ------------------------------------------------
  126. 1. Close all Lotus SmartSuite for OS/2 applications. 
  127.    
  128. 2. Change to the \OS2SS151\<language> directory (where <language> 
  129.    is the language version of SmartSuite).
  130.  
  131. 3. In the OS/2 System Editor, open the SUITE.RSP file located in 
  132.    the \OS2SS151\<language> directory. Edit the file appropriately 
  133.    and then save the file.
  134.  
  135.    Note: If you installed SmartSuite Release 1.5 using CID and have a
  136.    previously edited version of the SUITE.RSP response file, you 
  137.    can refer to or use that file.
  138.  
  139. 4. In the OS/2 System Editor, open the UPDSSCID.CMD file located 
  140.    in the \OS2SS151\<language> directory. Edit the file to add the 
  141.    appropriate directory information for your environment. 
  142.  
  143. 5. Save the UPDSSCID.CMD file and then exit the OS/2 System Editor.
  144.  
  145. 6. Type UPDSSCID and press ENTER to initiate the SmartSuite 
  146.    Release 1.5.1 installation.
  147.  
  148. C. Uninstalling SmartSuite Release 1.5.1
  149. ----------------------------------------
  150. The Uninstall process for SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 is the same as
  151. the SmartSuite Release 1.5 Uninstall process. For more information, 
  152. refer to Section I-6, Uninstalling SmartSuite Products, in the 
  153. SmartSuite Readme file (README.TXT) located in the \LOTUSW4 directory.

  173. SmartSuite Release 1.5, since the files in SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 
  174. do not constitute a complete product.

  176. You will need to refer to the WorkSpace On-Demand Readme file 
  177. (READWSOD.TXT) to complete the installation. This file is located 
  178. in the \OS2SS151 directory.
  179.  
  180. 1. Install SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 on the WorkSpace On-Demand 
  181.    Application server using the UPDSSCID.CMD command file.
  182.  
  183.    a. Close all Lotus SmartSuite for OS/2 applications. 
  184.    
  185.    b. Change to the \OS2SS151\<language> directory (where <language> 
  186.       is the language version of SmartSuite).
  187.  
  188.    c. In the OS/2 System Editor, open the SUITE.RSP file located in

  209.       appropriate information for your environment.

  218.    g. Type UPDSSCID and press ENTER to initiate the SmartSuite 
  219.       Release 1.5.1 installation on the Application server.
  220.  
  221. 2. After SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 is successfully installed on the 
  222.    Application server, update the users and client machines.
  223.  
  224.    a. Follow the instructions in step 8 of Section D in the 
  225.       READWSOD.TXT file to complete the SmartSuite installation for 
  226.       users and client machines. In step 8-b, type YES and press 
  227.       ENTER in response to the two questions: 
  228.  
  229.       "Do you want to perform SmartSuite Installation for any 
  230.       users?"        
  231.  
  232.       "Do you want to perform SmartSuite Installation on any 
  233.       client machines?" 
  234.  
  235.    b. Perform step 9 in Section D of the READWSOD.TXT to complete 
  236.       the installation of SmartSuite Release 1.5.1.
  237.  
  238. Note: The WorkSpace On-Demand Readme file (READWSOD.TXT) in 
  239. SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 contains updated information and is more  
  240. recent than the READWSOD.TXT file in SmartSuite Release 1.5. You 
  241. may want to copy the READWSOD.TXT file to an alternate location 
  242. if you plan to delete the \OS2SS151 directory tree after the 
  243. installation is finished.

  245. C. Uninstalling SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 on WorkSpace On-Demand

  247. The Uninstall process for SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 is the same as
  248. the SmartSuite Release 1.5 Uninstall process. For complete 
  249. information, refer to Section G in the WorkSpace On-Demand Readme

  261. A. Improved Microsoft Excel and Word Filters in 1-2-3 and 
  262.    Word Pro

  264. Microsoft Office file import and export filters are available 
  265. in 1-2-3 and Word Pro. The File - Open and File - Save functions
  266. maintain as much data and functionality as possible. Note that there 
  267. is not a 1:1 correspondence for all features in Microsoft Office 
  268. and Lotus SmartSuite, so 100% functionality cannot be achieved.

  270. 1-2-3
  271. -----
  272. 1-2-3 contains improved Microsoft Excel import and export filters:
  273.  
  274.  * 1-2-3 opens and exports Excel 2000 files. You can open Excel 
  275.    2000 files in 1-2-3 by choosing File - Open and selecting 
  276.    Microsoft Excel (XLS;XLT;XLW) for Type of file. You can save 
  277.    a 1-2-3 file as an Excel 2000 file by choosing File - Save As 
  278.    and selecting Microsoft Excel 97-2000 Workbook (XLS) for Save 
  279.    file as type.
  280.  
  281.  * 1-2-3 exports and displays outlines to and from Excel Release 4.0 
  282.    and later. In 1-2-3, you can hide or show the row outline frame 
  283.    independently of the column outline frame. In Excel, you must 
  284.    either hide both frames or show both frames. If you save a 1-2-3 
  285.    file containing an outline with hidden frames as an Excel file, 
  286.    the frame setting is not retained.

  288. Word Pro
  289. --------
  290. Word Pro contains improved Microsoft Word 97 import and export filters:

  292.  * Word Pro correctly displays Word 97 files that contain a 
  293.    graphic in the header.
  294.  * Word Pro correctly scales graphics contained in Word 97 files.
  295.  * Word Pro displays bookmarks for hyperlinks to bookmarks contained

  297.  * Word Pro exports correctly sized frames to Word 97.
  298.  * Word Pro correctly exports page borders to Word 97.

  308. Product Updates" to the Lotus Assistance Folder. Double-click the 
  309. icon to open this Readme file (UPDATE.TXT).

  311. C. Multilingual Installation
  312. ----------------------------
  313. SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 does not support multilingual installations 
  314. on a stand-alone or server-node installation. Only the primary
  315. language installation can be updated using the Update Install
  316. Program.

  342. IV. TROUBLESHOOTING
  343. ===================
  344.  
  345. SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 Update Install Program Displays Error 
  346. Message and Exits
  347. -------------------------------------------------------------
  348. The SmartSuite Release 1.5.1 Update Install Program displays an 
  349. error message and exits if one of the following conditions is 
  350. encountered during execution:
  351.  
  352.  * The Update Install Program cannot find a pre-existing installation 
  353.    of SmartSuite Release 1.5. You may have an earlier release
  354.    of SmartSuite installed or SmartSuite may not be installed at all.
  355.    To fix this problem, install SmartSuite Release 1.5 and then 
  356.    install SmartSuite Release 1.5.1.
  357.  
  358.  * The Update Install Program cannot find the EPFIS.INI and 
  359.    INSTALL.INI files or these files are deleted or contain 
  360.    errors. If you installed Lotus Notes after installing 
  361.    SmartSuite Release 1.5, some of the statements in these files may 
  362.    be incorrect for SmartSuite. To fix this problem, re-install 
  363.    SmartSuite Release 1.5 and then install SmartSuite Release 1.5.1.
  364.  
  365. SmartSuite Applications Do Not Work After Update Install Program Fails
  366. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  367. If the Update Install Program fails while copying files, a dialog
  368. box may prompt you to delete all of the files copied up to that 
  369. point in the installation. 
  370.  
  371.  * Choosing "yes" to remove the files directs the program to delete 
  372.    files in the \LOTUSW4 directory tree. Since these are the same 
  373.    files used by SmartSuite Release 1.5, these applications may no 
  374.    longer function correctly after the files are deleted.
  375.  
  376.  * Choosing "no" to remove the files does not delete any files.
  377.  
  378. Lotus recommends that you choose "no" if a dialog box prompts you to
  379. remove files. If you inadvertently choose "yes" to remove the files, 
  380. you can:
  381.  
  382.  * Retry the SmartSuite Release 1.5.1.
  383.  
  384.  * Re-install SmartSuite Release 1.5 and then install SmartSuite 
  385.    Release 1.5.1.
