  1. WinDirs v4.4!
  2.  
  3. WinDirs is a complete file management utility.  It allows 
  4. you to create directories, delete directories, copy and 
  5. move files, search for files, view and execute files, 
  6. rearrange your Windows items and groups, and it includes a 
  7. built-in uncompression program which will extract ZIP, 
  8. LZH or ARJ files and Expand Microsoft's compressed files.  
  9. WinDirs also has a file labeling function which allows you 
  10. to attach short descriptions to your files to describe what 
  11. they are.  It has a built-in graphics viewer for BMP and 
  12. GIF files and an icon viewer and editor. Recently added
  13. features include a Direcory Comparison Function, a
  14. Directory Report Function and a find modem feature 
  15. located in the WinDirs menu.

  17. This version of WinDirs is Windows 95 compatible.
  18. For Windows 95 users the option to run Scan Disk will be 
  19. enabled as a menu item.

  21. You will need to have the VBRUN300.DLL file installed in your 
  22. Windows\System directory in order for WinDirs to run and before you
  23. can run the WinDirs setup program. You will also need to
  24. have the the following archiving utilities fully extracted in a 
  25. directory which is located in your path:

  27. For the PKZip program,PKZ204G.EXE; 
  28. For the ARJ program, ARJ239a.EXE or ARJ250.EXE (recent versions); 
  29. For the LHA program, LHA212.EXE.
  30. (the EXE filename may depend on the version of the program.).

  32. From PKZ204g.exe, WinDirs uses Pkzip.exe, Pkunzip.exe, Pkzipfix.exe, 
  33. and Zip2exe.exe. 
  34. From Arj239a.exe all you will need is Arj.exe. 
  35. From Lha212.exe lha.exe is all that is needed.

  37. Please ensure these files are in your path.  These files are not 
  38. furnished as part of the WinDirs Program.  They can be obtained
  39. from most online services or BBSs.

  41. After extracting the windiv43.exe file, you should see the following

  68. To load WinDirs onto your system, go to the File menu of your 
  69. Windows Program Manager and choose Run.  Choose the WinDirs 
  70. setup.exe file from the directory or disk and click on OK.  
  71. The setup program will load all the necessary files onto your 
  72. system and create a Windows program group called KnowWare. If 
  73. you are using Windows 95 go to the Start button and choose Run.

  75. When WinDirs is installed onto your system, the .pif files are 
  76. added to your Windows directory.  All of the .dll and .vbx
  77. files are added to your Windows\System directory.  The WinDirs 
  78. .exe and .hlp files and the windirs.wri file go into the knowware 
  79. directory.  To uninstall WinDirs, simply delete all of the files 
  80. in the list.  No changes are made to your autoexec.bat or any 
  81. .ini files.

  83. After installation of WinDirs is complete please view the WinDirs 
  84. Readme by double clicking its icon. There is also a "Getting 
  85. Started" menu item located in the program's Help menu.

  87. WinDirs may be distributed freely, as long as no fee is charged 
  88. for the distribution and all of the files listed above are included
  89. with the program.  It may in no way be bundled with or included 
  90. into another program without obtaining prior written permission 
  91. from the author.
