  1.      3Com NDIS 2.01 driver installation notes for Banyan VINES client

  4.  To install VINES 5.0 software on a DOS NDIS workstation, follow these
  5.  instructions.  DOS must be installed on the target workstation C: drive, or
  6.  you must have a bootable DOS floppy.
  7.  
  8.  1.  Use the DOS MD command to create a subdirectory called \VINES.
  9.  
  10.  2.  Copy the contents of the VINES LAN S/W (DOS) Install diskette into the
  11.      \VINES subdirectory.
  12.  
  13.  3.  Copy the contents of the NDIS subdirectory on the VINES LAN S/W (DOS) 2
  14.      of 2 diskette into the \VINES subdirectory.
  15.  
  16.  4.  Copy the PROTOCOL.INI fragment from the NDIS\DOS subdirectory on the
  17.      EtherDisk diskette to the \VINES subdirectory.

  19.  5.  Edit the PROTOCOL.INI file to read as follows:

  21.      [PROTOCOL MANAGER]
  22.       DRIVERNAME = PROTMAN$
  23.  
  24.      [VINES_XIF]
  25.       DRIVERNAME = NDISBAN$
  26.       BINDINGS = ELINK59X
  27.  
  28.      [ELINK59X]
  29.       DRIVERNAME = EL59X$

  31.  6.  Run the PCCONFIG.EXE program located in the \VINES subdirectory.

  33.  7.  Select option 1, Network Card Settings.
  34.  
  35.  8.  Select the NDIS Ethernet option.

  37.  9.  The NDIS workstation screen appears.  Enter the interrupt request
  38.      number (IRQ) that was used for the 3Com adapter. The interrupt number 
  39.      can be determined by running the configuration and diagnostic utility 
  40.      and choosing "view" and "adapter configuration (F8)".
  41.  
  42.  10. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file and add the following lines. If a boot
  43.      diskette is being made, substitute A: for C: in the following lines.

  45.      DEVICE = C:\VINES\PROTMAN.DOS /I:C:\VINES
  46.      DEVICE = C:\VINES\EL59X.DOS
  47.  
  48.  11. Add the BAN command to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  BAN loads the NDISBAN
  49.      drivers and reads the PCCONFIG.DB file to invoke changes made during
  50.      the PCCONFIG stage.
