Picture Transfer
a review of sorts
Written and Copyrighted 1988 by Scott Darling
Permission to reprint on NON profit medium ONLY.
Picture Transfer is written by Paul Charlton for the 9640 that runs from
MDOS mode. It takes off where GIF2 left off. It supports the four display
modes and will load the following formats: RLE, TI-Artist, Graphx, MY-Art,
and GIF. It will save to the following formats: MY-Art and GIF. PT also
supports the hard drive now.
A new feature allows loading a picture anywhere on screen and then loading
another picture over the top of the first picture. Thus giving you the
ability to build up to 4 files on screen simultaneously using RLE, Graphx,
or TI-Artist files! Using Gif or MY-Art would give you a composite of
various files. Thusly allowing you to utilize the next new command CLIP.
Clip allows you to take a portion of a screen and then load another or the
same picture around, over, under, besides and just about anywhere using
horizontal and vertical pixel coordinates. It does take some getting used
to, but is a lot of fun. Trial and error will be the standard using clip.
But once you get the hang of it it can provide some interesting results!
The BEST feature in this version is the ability to load TWO screens and pop
them on screen. You can load two pictures into the buffers and do SHOW 1
and then SHOW 2. Which leads me into the next feature.
Script allows you to write a D/V 80 file that will control the loading and
showing of files automatically. It uses all the regular commands without
any keyboard intervention and does not show the commands onscreen. This is
an excellent way to have a slideshow to show the picture files.
Typing HELP brings up all of the commands and their structure and there is
even an MDOS shell. Meaning you can do a 'MDOS DIR' to get a directory of
files without leaving PT.
The last new command is STATS which shows the resolution, clip and window
parameters, screen and loading buffers.
Picture Transfer is NOT protected, BUT it is cripplware until registered
with Genial Computerware. The owners name and serial number are encoded
into the program and a few functions do not work until it is released by
registering. In other words, this will hopefully prevent some piracy. I
like this method and it does not hinder the use of the program. PT can be
placed on any type of disk drive, ramdisk or hard drive.
Picture Transfer is available from Genial Computerware and probably other
TI Software Retailers.
