  23. 1. General Notes
  24. ================
  25.   IMPORTANT!
  26.   You must IMPERATIVELY read this README file and all the documentation
  27.   supplied BEFORE you continue the installation!
  28.   Otherwise SPEA cannot accept any responsibility for claims that may be
  29.   caused as a consequence.

  31.   Please be aware that you can only take full advantage of the
  32.   features provided by the V7-MIRAGE P-64 V, if the other components of
  33.   your system, especially the graphic monitor that is being used,
  34.   also comply with the specifications of the V7-MIRAGE P-64 V.
  35.   (Example : The resolution 1280x1024 that is supported by the
  36.   V7-MIRAGE P-64 V can obviously not be used with a monitor that is
  37.   specified to only support resolutions up to 1024x768).

  39. 2. Installation
  40. ===============
  41.   The program calls stated below refer to the installation from the
  42.   SPEA installation disks and the SPEA Media Gallery CD ('MG-CD').
  43.  
  44. 2.1 Installation under DOS
  45. ==========================
  46. Note:
  47.   Before you start the installation you should know where (drive and 
  48.   directory) your applications are installed for which you wish to
  49.   install driver software.
  50.  
  51.   Start the installation from
  52.   a) Disk with               b) MG-CD with
  53.      A:\                        <CD drive>:
  54.      INSTALL                    SPEAINST
  55.  
  56.   After the installation it will normally be necessary to reconfigure
  57.   your applications for the new driver software. The steps necessary
  58.   to achieve this are described in the manuals.
  59.  
  60.   VESA Modes:
  61.   -----------
  62.   VESA mode support is integrated in the BIOS of the V7-MIRAGE P-64 V.
  63.   Some programs, such as MS Flight Simulator 5.0, do in fact run faster
  64.   with the program V7MIPVBE.EXE which you will find in your new GDC
  65.   directory (e.g. C:\SPEA\GDC) after the installation of the Utlities.
  66.  
  67.   MicroStation:
  68.   -------------
  69.   A SPEA driver for MicroStation is currently not available. As soon as
  70.   this is rectified, the driver will be placed at your disposal via
  71.   our BBS and CompuServe.

  73. 2.2 Installation under Windows / Windows 95  
  74. ===========================================
  75. Note: The install program detects your operatin system and installs
  76.   the correct drivers.
  77.  
  78.   Select the menu items 'File' and then 'Run' in the Windows Program
  79.   Manager. Then enter:
  80.  
  81.   a) (Disk)                  b) (MG-CD)
  82.      A:\SETUP                   <CD drive>:SPEAINST

  84. Note:
  85.   If you intend to use the DOS programs SPTUNE and S3TEST under
  86.   Windows 95 then you must do this via the Explorer ('Start', 'Run')
  87.   using the path C:\SPEA\GDC\SPTUNE for example, and NOT via a DOS
  88.   box.

  91. 2.3 Installation under OS/2 Warp
  92. ================================
  93.   To install the driver software under OS/2 and Win-OS/2, put the disk
  94.   or CD in the respective drive and start as follows:
  95.  
  96.   a) (Disk)                  b) (MG-CD)
  97.      A:\V7SETOS2                <CD drive>:SPEAINST
  98.  
  99.   To install other drivers and tools, start Win-OS/2 and continue as
  100.   described in section 2.2
  101.  
  102. 2.4 Installing the Windows NT 3.5 Driver
  103. ========================================
  104.   The driver for Windows NT 3.5 is not a part of the standard delivery
  105.   scope. To install, select the menu items 'File' and then 'Run' in the 
  106.   Windows Program Manager. Then enter:
  107.  
  108.   a) (Disk)                  b) (MG-CD)
  109.      A:\V7SETNT                 <CD drive>:SPEAINST

  111. 3.  Choosing a Monitor
  112. ======================
  113.   As mentioned above, the graphics monitor you choose to use with
  114.   your board should be technically suitable for use with your
  115.   V7-MIRAGE P-64 V board in order to be able fully utilize this.
  116.  
  117.   The display refresh rate for graphical user interface operating
  118.   systems (Windows [95], OS/2 and Windows NT) is selected using
  119.   the corresponding program V7SETUP, V7SETOS2 and V7SETNT.
  120.  
  121.   Extended tuning (with display image positioning) and the selection
  122.   of the display refresh rate for DOS programs such as AutoCAD for 
  123.   DOS, is made with the program SPEAtune (SPTUNE).
  124.  
  125. Note:
  126.   SPTUNE is exclusively programmed for use under DOS.
  127.   
  128.                  *** IMPORTANT ***
  129.  
  130.   Only use settings that your monitor supports. If you use the monitor
  131.   outside the specified ratings then it may suffer permanent damage!
  132.   If you change the monitor then you must compare the ratings first
  133.   and should reconfigure with SPTUNE accordingly!
  134.  
  135. 4.  Known Restrictions
  136. ======================
  137.  
  138.   (1) It is generally not possible to use more than one active VGA
  139.   board simultaneously in a PC.
  140.   If your PC has a VGA adapter on the motherboard and you wish to use
  141.   the V7-MIRAGE P-64 V, then you must deactivate the VGA adapter in the
  142.   PC first.
  143.  
  144.   (2) Some applications, e.g. Windows 3.1, Word ..., offer an internal
  145.   configuration program which in turn offer 'Video 7 ...' drivers as
  146.   the VGA device.
  147.   These can NOT be used for the V7-MIRAGE P-64 V!
  148.   To achieve optimal driver configuration in cases like these, proceed
  149.   with the installation and configuration of driver software as 
  150.   described in the manual of the V7-MIRAGE P-64 V.
  151.  
  152. 5.  Notes on Applications
  153. =========================
  154.   Seperate README files exist for the applications supported by the
  155.   V7-MIRAGE P-64 V. These contain information on last-minute changes
  156.   that could not be included in the manual. They also contain 
  157.   information concerning known restrictions.
  158.   The README files are also copied to the \SPEA\GDC directory during 
  159.   the software installation when you select a driver. The files have
  160.   the extension .DOC.
  161.   You can view the respective README files by entering SHOW *.DOC.

  168. 6.  Corrections to the Manual
  169. =============================
  170.   
  171.   V7-MIRAGE P-64 V and SPEA Ergonomic Modes up to 100 Hz:
  172.   -------------------------------------------------------
  173.   The BIOS of your V7-MIRAGE P-64 V supports all available resolutions
  174.   up to a frequency of 75 Hz. An additional software solution (SPTUNE)
  175.   also makes refresh rates up to 100 Hz possible. An overview of the
  176.   frequencies available can be found in the file BIOS.TXT.
  177.   Important: the SPEA ergonomic modes with frequencies over 75 Hz are
  178.   only active if the program 'V7HFREQ' has been called with the parameter
  179.   't'. For this reason, a corresponding call is placed in your
  180.   AUTOEXEC.BAT file during the installation.
  181.  
  182.   S3TEST:
  183.   -------
  184.   S3TEST is a program provided to test your graphics board for errors. It
  185.   check whether the board is correctly functioning together with your PC.
  186.   During the testing phase (which can take a few seconds), a number of
  187.   different color patterns will be displayed on your monitor (these are
  188.   different according to the board being tested). The patterns created 
  189.   are the result of technical tests and do NOT represent an error on
  190.   your board. An accurate result is shown at the end of the test routine.

  196.   SPEA graphics boards and multimedia products, SPEA provides the

  201.   - technical information, hints and answers to frequently asked
  202.     questions, compiled and updated regularly by the staff of the
