  46.         The V7-MIRAGE graphics card is a product that offers significantly
  47.         enhanced features compared to other standard VGA graphic and
  48.         accelerator boards.
  49.  
  50.         This particularly applies to
  51.         - higher resolutions    and
  52.         - higher refresh rates.
  53.  
  54.         Please be aware that you can only take full advantage of the
  55.         features provided by the V7-MIRAGE, if the other components of
  56.         your system, especially the graphics monitor that is being used,
  57.         also comply with the specifications of the V7-MIRAGE.
  58.  
  59.         (Example : The resolution 1280x1024 that is supported by the
  60.         V7-MIRAGE can obviously not be used with a monitor that is speci-
  61.         fied to only support resolutions up to 1024x768.)

  63.         The advantages of the "VESA Local Bus" can only be used with a
  64.         V7-MIRAGE (VL) board, if this card is installed in a PC system
  65.         with a VESA Local Bus interface.

  72.         For installing the SPEA V7 Windows driver 'BigWin':
  73.  
  74.         Select the menu items 'File' and then 'Run' in the Windows Program
  75.         Manager. Then enter:
  76.  
  77.         a) (Drivers for Windows Disk)      b) (Media Gallery-CD)

  84.         Usually two major steps are necessary to install the driver(s)
  85.         for a specific non windows application.
  86.  
  87.     (1) (Only for floppy disk installation. You have to start the installation
  88.         from Media Gallery CD-ROM always with SPEAINST.)
  89.         First the driver modules must be copied from the V7-MIRAGE Super-
  90.         disk to the hard disk of your system.
  91.         This is done by the INSTALL program provided with the V7-MIRAGE
  92.         Superdisk.
  93.         Before you start INSTALL you should know in which drives and
  94.         directories the applications are installed that you want to install
  95.         drivers for.
  96.  
  97.         - change to the V7-MIRAGE Superdisk and call INSTALL,
  98.         - select the language you prefer,
  99.         - and follow the instructions given by INSTALL.
  100.  
  101.     (2) After the driver modules have been copied to the hard disk, the
  102.         applications need to be re-configured for the new drivers. The
  103.         User Manual provides detailed descriptions for each application
  104.         supported by the V7-MIRAGE.

  108.         ║                    Monitor Selection                        ║

  111.         As already mentioned above, the graphic monitor used with the
  112.         V7-MIRAGE must comply to the specifications of the V7-MIRAGE.
  113.         Only then can the full functionality of the V7-MIRAGE be used.
  114.  
  115.         The program SPEAtune (SPTUNE) is designed to select and modify 
  116.         the various monitor parameters. Please read the corresponding 
  117.         sections of the V7-MIRAGE addendum.

  123.         Please only select parameters that your monitor is specified for.
  124.         Your monitor may be seriously damaged, if it is constantly driven
  125.         with parameters which are not within the range of its specification.
  126.         If you change your monitor you have to compare the specification
  127.         and, if necessary, to change the resolutions / refresh rates e.g.
  128.         using SPEAtune !

  131.         ║                    Known Limitations                        ║

  134.     (1) It is not possible to use two or more VGA boards in one PC at
  135.         the same time.
  136.         In case you want to use the V7-MIRAGE board in a PC that has a
  137.         VGA interface integrated on the motherboard, then this integrated
  138.         VGA interface must be disabled before the V7-MIRAGE may be used.
  139.  
  140.     (2) In some PCs of the Intel 386/25MHz series the V7-MIRAGE may only
  141.         be used as standard VGA card. Limitations on the Intel 386/25
  142.         motherboard do not allow to make use of the accelerator functions
  143.         of the V7-MIRAGE in such systems.
  144.  
  145.     (3) Some applications such as Windows 3.1, and others offer
  146.  
  147.                          "Video 7 ..." display interfaces
  148.  
  149.         in their configuration programs.
  150.  
  151.         These options should NOT be selected when using the V7-MIRAGE.
  152.  
  153.         Please follow the instructions given in the user's manual to
  154.         guarantee that the optimum configuration for the V7-MIRAGE is
  155.         being installed.

  159.         ║                  Notes on Applications                      ║

  162.         Seperate README files are supplied for most application drivers
  163.         available for the V7-MIRAGE. These READMEs contain last-minute
  164.         information not included in the printed documentation and infor-
  165.         mation related to known limitations.

  167.         These README files are copied to the directory \SPEA\GDC when
  168.         the related driver has been selected for installation while
  169.         running the INSTALL program. The READMEs can be identified by
  170.         the file name extension .DOC .
  171.  
  172.         Use the command  SHOW *.DOC  from the \SPEA\GDC directory to
  173.         display the README file on your screen.

  196.         Upgrade 1MB --> 2MB DRAM
  197.         In the manual the possibility to upgrade from 1MB to 2MB DRAM is
  198.         described. This upgrade is not possible any longer. A V7-MIRAGE with
  199.         2MB DRAM compared with a board with only 1MB DRAM was only able
  200.         to additionally display two more resolutions in unergonomic
  201.         interlaced modes. The DRAM Upgrade has no influence on the speed of
  202.         the graphics board.

  205.         Layout of the graphics board
  206.         The layout of the graphics board has changed in the meantime and is
  207.         not identical with the illustrations in the manual (Part 2 and
  208.         Appendix A) any longer.

  210.         Jumper
  211.         There are no jumpers on the V7-MIRAGE any longer.
  212.  
  213.         VESA modes
  214.         The V7-MIRAGE BIOS does not support the VESA interface.
  215.         If VESA support is required, the small memory resident program
  216.         V7MIRVBE.EXE should be executed. Video modes can be selected via the
  217.         VGA mode numbers. VESA numbers may only be used if the VESA emulator
  218.         has been installed.
