  15.                          5 Dwelling Places
  16.                               of God
  17.               SERIES: GOD'S HABITATION.  LESSON NO.I.

  19. GOD'S 5 DWELLING PLACES.
  20.  
  21. Five specific places are recorded in the Old Testament where God's
  22. presence dwelt.  We can derive much truth from studying each of
  23. these dwelling places.  We find that each one signifies a definite
  24. experience in God.
  25.  
  26. The 5 dwelling places are: -
  27. 1.   The Altar of Stone.
  28. 2.   Moses - tent of the Congregation.
  29. 3.   Moses - Tabernacle.
  30. 4.   David's - Tabernacle.
  31. 5.   Solomon's - Temple.
  32.  
  33. These speak of progressive Truth.  Not until the 5th does God
  34. rest, showing we must go on to all truth.  Note 1
  35. Chron.17:5......... I have gone from tent to tent, and from
  36. Tabernacle to Tabernacle".  God seeks a permanent dwelling place.
  37.  
  38. It commences with a simple plain Altar and finishes with a
  39. magnificent detailed structure called the Temple, which is a type
  40. of God's spiritual temple that the Holy Spirit is building today.
  41.  
  42. 1    The Altar of Stone.
  43.      Speaks of the Truth of:-
  44.      (a)  salvation and repentance.
  45.      (b)  dedication and surrender.
  46.  
  47.      God's meeting place.  Gen.8:20 where God met with Noah.  God
  48.      meets with us at Calvary (salvation).
  49.  
  50.      Surrender Ex.20:24. Animal surrendered and placed on the
  51.      Altar.  A blessing came as a result of the sacrifice.
  52.      Blessing results from our complete surrender and dedication
  53.      to the Cross.
  54.  
  55.      No Compromise.  Altar to be made of whole stones, untouched
  56.      by any tool of man.  Ex.20:25; Deut. 27:4-7; Jos. 8:31.
  57.      Christ is our Altar.  Many seek to hew and cut bits that
  58.      don't suit them, e.g. watering down the jagged truths of
  59.      Repentance and Surrender.  There is a price to pay for these
  60.      truths.

  62.      Many seek to camp around this experience of Salvation and
  63.      Dedication, but God's plan was to add to this experience and
  64.      lead them on to Step No. 2.
  65.  
  66. 2.   Moses' tent of the Congregation.
  67.      Speaks of the Truth of the experience of the Baptism of the
  68.      Holy Spirit
  69.  
  70.       a)  Cloud comes down v.9. speaking of the Holy Spirit.
  71.       b)  Pitched outside camp v.7 speaks of bearing His reproach
  72.           (Heb.13:13) i.e. persecution and suffering because of
  73.           this experience.
  74.       c)  Those who sought the Lord went out to the tent v.7
  75.           This speaks of those who are hungering, desiring and
  76.           seeking for the Holy Spirit.  Acts 5:32; 2:39.

  78.      We now have the Altar (salvation and dedication) and the
  79.      Cloud (Baptism of the Holy Spirit).  But God still wanted to
  80.      lead us on.  Note: There was no fence around this tent -
  81.      (standard of separation).  The Tabernacle of Moses was in
  82.      preparation during this time.  Moses' tent was only
  83.      temporary.  It lasted months while the other was being
  84.      prepared.  This shows that God doesn't intend people just to
  85.      be filled with the Spirit and stay there.  God's plan is to
  86.      lead them straight away into the next truth.  The cloud (Holy
  87.      Spirit) is to lead us into all truth - John 16:13.

  89. 3.   The Tabernacle of Moses. Ex.35. The Holy Spirit will lead us into a
  90.      practical experience of all that the Tabernacle and its furnishings point
  91.      to. This is the place of God's dwelling now, not the former tent,
  92.      wonderful as it was.  This Tabernacle also had the Altar and the Cloud,
  93.      but had much more as well.  It speaks of going on to .NM of further truth.

  95. Speaks of: -
  96.  
  97. 1.   Fence - Truth of separation from world, flesh and devil.
  98.      Holiness.  Bible standards of conduct etc.
  99.  
  100. 2.   Larger and better Altar - a greater revelation of the
  101.      finished work of Calvary brought about by the Holy Spirit.
  102.  
  103. 3.   Laver - washing of Word.  Truth of Water Baptism.
  104.  
  105. 4.   Holy Place - the beauty and depth of Christ revealed by the
  106.      Holy Spirit.
  107.  
  108. 5.   Candlestick - coming together of the Body of Christ, the 9
  109.      gifts and fruit, anointing oil, trimming of wicks etc.
  110.  
  111. 6.   Table - communion and fellowship of His presence and word.
  112.  
  113. 7.   Altar of Incense - prayer and praise.
  114.  
  115. 8.   Ark - fullness of His Glory and presence.
  116.  
  117. 9.   Boards - the detailed work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of
  118.      the Church to bring us to perfection through His 5-fold
  119.      ministry.
  120.  
  121. 10.  Aaron and His 4 sons - 5 fold ministry to lead us to
  122.      perfection.  Eph.4: 1 1.

  124. These are some of the Truth the Holy Spirit will lead us into to bring us to
  125. Perfection - now He leads us onto the next dwelling place.
