  22.      Definition of Shareware. . .
  23.  
  24.           Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  25.      before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  26.      using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  27.      differ on details -- some request registration while others
  28.      require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  29.      registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  30.      using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  32.           Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  33.      and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  34.      exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  35.      programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  36.      of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
  37.      and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  38.      distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  39.      and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  40.      specific group. For example, some authors require written
  41.      permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  42.      Shareware.

  44.           Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
  45.      should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  46.      whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
  47.      fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
  48.      And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
  49.      has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  50.      product, you don't pay for it.

  58.      supplied as-is.  The author disclaims all warranties, expressed or
  59.      implied, including, without limitation, the warranties of merchantability
  60.      and of fitness for any purpose. The author assumes no liability for
  61.      damages, direct or consequential, which may result from the use of
  62.      FFG.

  66.           Registration. . .

  68.           FFG is a copyrighted Shareware program by Thomas G. Vavoso,
  69.      President, EnGamma.  The evaluation version of FFG is offered at no
  70.      charge to any potential user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with
  71.      your friends and associates, but please do not give it away altered or
  72.      as part of another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software
  73.      is to provide personal computer users with quality software without
  74.      high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to continue
  75.      to develop new products.

  77.           If you find this program useful and find that you are using FFG
  78.      after a 60-day trial period, you must make a registration payment of
  79.      $10. Checks may be made payable to "Thomas G. Vavoso".  You will be
  80.      sent registered copy of the latest version of FFG.  You are entitled
  81.      to have as many copies of it as you wish (for example, one on each
  82.      computer you use at home and work, plus one for your briefcase for
  83.      troubleshooting someone else's system), with the understanding that
  84.      these are for YOUR personal use and demonstration to others.  Please
  85.      recognize that this is a CONSIDERABLY relaxed condition on copying and
  86.      usage than some authors specify.  It is done for YOUR convenience.

  88.           Registration also entitles you to an automatic license extention
  89.      to all subsequent releases of the DOS command line version of FFG
  90.      during the two-years immediately following your registration.  That's
  91.      right--the $10 fee includes a two-year "maintenance" plan that
  92.      entitles you to the latest release of the product opon request.  The
  93.      only cost you incur for updates within the two year period is for any
  94.      shipping/handling distribution costs, which should be minimal if done
  95.      electronically.  Registration also entitles you to user support by
  96.      mail.

  98.           Prospective commercial users of FFG may contact the author to
  99.      arrange for site and/or network licenses.

  101.           Distributors and BBS sysops recognized by the Association of
  102.      Shareware Professionals (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for
  103.      shareware distributors may begin offering FFG in their catalogs/BBS
  104.      services immediately.  Other distributors whose only remuneration is a
  105.      nominal fee for the disk itself, and whose literature makes it clear
  106.      to their buyers that the program material must be separately purchased
  107.      from the author, may also offer FFG immediately, but should inform me
  108.      so that I can provide them periodic updates.  Distributors who wish to
  109.      sell FFG packaged as or in a retail product must contact me, and are
  110.      not authorized to distribute this version of FFG.
