Beta drivers for Sound Blaster series cards
with Multi-instance Support
on OS/2 2.1 (MMPM2 ver 1.1)
Nov. 3, 1993
The beta driver provided here support multi-instance: meaning that you
can open as many digital audio or MIDI players on the desktop as you
want, and play the music sequentially (note: only SB16 supports simul-
taneous WAVE and MIDI playback, see note below) as you switch focus from
one player to another. Just replace the corresponding driver with the
one that supplied here in c:\mmos2
For Sound Blaster: sbd2.sys
For Sound Blaster Pro(OPL2): sbpd2.sys
For Sound Blaster Pro2(OPL3): sbp2d2.sys
Procedures for installing SB16D2.SYS
that has simutaneous WAVE and MIDI playback capability
Nov. 3, 1993
The driver sb16d2.sys (and the supporting dll sb16.dll) supplied with
this zip file allows the simutaneous WAVE and MIDI playback, which means that
you can open a WAVE player and a MIDI player and have them playing at the same
time: not that you would likely want to hear Madonna and Michael Jackson singing
at the same time, but a lot of game programs actually plays MIDI music in the
background and WAVE format sound effect for action shots!
NOTE: IMPORTANT!!!
This feature is only supported on SB16 and NOT for other members of SB series!
This is because SB16 has a on-board programmable timer while the others don't,
and the timer resolution on OS/2 2.1 (32ms) is not good enough
Here is how to add this feature to your system:
1. Load the new sb16d2.sys driver.
2. copy sb16.dll to c:\mmos2\dll
3. Make sure the following lines, in c:\mmos2\mmpm2.ini, are the same as they
appear here:
in [ibmampmixsb01] section:
...
RESOURCEUNITS=2
RESOURCECLASSES=2,1,1
VALIDCOMBINATIONS=1,2,2,1
PARMSTRING=TREBLE=50,BASS=50,PITCH=50,GAIN=70,BALANCE=50,VOL=100,INPUT=LINE,OUTPUT=SPEAKER,RESOURCEDLL=SB16,RCID=4
...
4. reboot the system.
