  3.   If you are going to grow the  larger
  4. elephant garlic, it's obvious that you
  5. will have to allow more  room  between
  6. each bulb.  Keep each clove  about  6"
  7. from  the  other  to  allow  for  full
  8. growth of the bulbs.                  
  9.   You can encourage the bulbs to  grow
  10. larger by  cutting  the  ends  of  the
  11. green stalks back a tad.  This  forces
  12. more growth below ground.             
  13.   Save your largest  cloves  for  next
  14. years crop.  The second year  will  be
  15. better because the garlic is tuned  in
  16. (acclimated) to your soil.            
  17.   If you have planted  cloves  between
  18. grape vines or fruit trees, don't pull
  19. them up.  Leaving them in  the  ground
  20. will keep underground pests away.
