  5.    Many  home  gardeners  will   plant
  6. garlic throughout  their  other  crops
  7. and/or flowers just for the purpose of
  8. keeping pests away from plants.   They
  9. simply stick a garlic clove in between
  10. the other plants.  Sounds silly but it
  11. works!  An organic pesticide!         
  12.   Do not allow the  ground  to  become
  13. too dry during the growing season.  It
  14. doesn't take kindly to being dry.   If
  15. you are in a warm climate like  Texas,
  16. keeping it moist is doubly important. 
  17.   Some plants may flower, others  will
  18. not.  It's not important since we  are
  19. not looking for seeds anyway.  As  the
  20. growing season progresses, many garlic
  21. lovers  will cut an  occasional  green
  22. leaf and use it in salads.

  25.   When the cloves are  done  growing,
  26. the leaves  will wither and lie down. 
  27. When they turn brown, you can harvest
  28. the crop.  I use a  finger  and  lift
  29. the bulb out of the  ground.    Don't
  30. break off the leaves.  Shake off  the
  31. excess ground and put them  on  paper
  32. to allow for drying.  It will  take a
  33. couple of days.                      
  34.   Now, if you know how to braid,  you
  35. can braid  the  leaves  together  and
  36. hang your garlic in a dry  place.   I
  37. don't know how to braid so I save old
  38. mesh onion bags for storage.  You can 
  39. also use a panty hose tying a knot at 
  40. each bulb.  Place the next bulb above
  41. the knot.  When you want a  bulb, you
  42. simply cut the panty hose.
