(UsNetMail 1991)
=============== HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? =============
It costs you NOTHING TO JOIN, only long distance if u do not
have a local hub in your area.
Netmail, is a 'commitment' that only YOU can decide. YOU pay
nothing to UsNetMail for the messages you receive, and nothing
for the messages you and your users put into the network in the
various conferences.
As the SysOp, YOU must decide IF you can afford to take on
netmail. The costs for netmail are incurred by Long-Distance
charges on your phone bill. It requires a commitment on your
part to anticipate and be prepared for an average monthly
expense. If you are using a controlled cost long-distance plan,
like AT&T Reach Out, or another plan where your cost is held to
a flat rate of like 10-cents per minute, your monthly cost in
long distance will be somewhere between $3 to $6 per month. This
depends on where you hub from. The way the National HUB keeps
your online-time to a minimun during mail calls, is by pre-scanning
your mail packet before you call in, thus you do not spend time
online while the system scans the mail and prepares your message
packet for download.
IF YOU CAN CONNECT TO A UsNetMail HUB WITH A LOCAL CALL, IT
COSTS YOU NOTHING!
An average mail run takes only 1-2 minutes per night.
If you do not think that YOU can afford this, then RIGHT NOW
you should NOT consider having any kind of netmail available
for your BBS callers at this time!
WE DO ALLOW FOR YOU TO CALL IN AS LITTLE AS 3-TIMES PER WEEK
IF LONG-DISTANCE COSTS ARE A MAJOR CONSIDERATION FOR YOU.
=============== Who does UsNetMail want Most? =============
UsNetMail has alway had pride in its membership, and their users,
and moreover, pride of having a relaxed 'laid-back' atmosphere.
SysOps, and other callers are not expected to 'war-lord' the
conferences, and when an off-topic message appears in a
conference, JUST LET IT SLIDE. It causes nothing but problems
when other callers try to 'jump' on those who may have just
made a small mistake in posting a message.
The 'WAR-LORD' APPROACH does NOTHING to promote a friendly
environment to enjoy and learn in. UsNetMail WILL NOT
accomodate this type of message activity. This is very
important for YOU and YOUR USERS to know about!
=============== What can UsNetMail Offer You? ===============
UsNetMail can offer to you and your BBS callers, a special
and relaxed atmosphere where you can become a part of a
group of other BBS callers who rely on UsNetMail for the
help, education, pleasures, and sharing that communicating with
people from all walks of life can bring.
Its not all smiles :-) but more GOOD than ugly. No everyone
gets up on the 'right' side of the bed each day, and we must
understand this when we are using such a vast network.
====== IS UsNetMail DIFFERENT FROM OTHER NETWORKS? ===========
-YES-
Besides the 'family' atmosphere of the users, we do a few things
that the other networks just dont.
UsNetMail has the most informative and powerful NetWork Reporting
system....BAR NONE....of any Network in the World.
Monthly you will receive an ADMINISTRATIVE REPORT of all conferences
and their traffic levels.
PERIODIC CONFERENCE IDENTIFICATION-- UsNetMail National HUB system
automatically generates (periodically) a conference ID message
which has the name of the conference, and its basic description.
This helps YOU to be sure conferences are configured properly, and
helps your callers feel more at home with reference to the
conference topic and its use.
NETWORK USER REPORT -- This is a report listing each user on the
network. Ordered first by the system they access (your net-id)
and then by name, number of messages they entered, and in how
many conferences. Excellent Statistics!
100% AUTOMATED NETWORK NODE INFORMATION SYSTEM -- Our unique
node information system is a MESSAGE BASE oriented system that
YOU control right from your board. It also automatically posts
a BBSad for you, in the BBSads confernece once monthly! No other
network offers you this type of exposure. You will literally get
calls from all over the country!
There is more, but that is enought to load you up with right now.
================ WHAT DO I DO TO JOIN UsNetMail? ===============
That part is VERY easy.
FIRST, you must join the UsNetMail Network, by calling the
UsNetMail WORLD HUB at (USA) 305-977-0933. This is a High-Speed
V-Series modem, regardless of your connect speed, it should only
take you about 4-minutes to complete member questionaire.
THEN, download according to your BBS system type the needed mail
tosser files.
DECIDE where you will want to call to exchange your mail.
In this packet are files with the extension of .HUB Find a HUB
in a location that is best for you.
NOTIFY the HUB you want to call for mail, (Follow the HUBs
instructions.) You may additionally be assigned a specific time
to make your mail-runs.
The HUB sysop will then wait for a notification message in the
UsAdmin Conference that you have joined the network.
(This could take up to a few days)
================= REQUIRED NODE INFORMATION SYSTEM ============
UsNetMail REQUIRES you to have your Network-ID on your tagline.
This NETWORK-ID is assigned through the UsAdmin conference,
using a message to our automated network-id system, with a
special subject line. This triggers the system to know that
the message is for the network-id system, and it will then
read the message for certain criteria to update your systems
information in its database.
Oh, you only send it in with 'NEW' as your node-id ONCE,
it will then send u a message of the current information for
your system, and will contain YOUR node-id (NETWORK-ID).
Once u have a node-id, u use your real node-id when sending
in updates!
Here is a sample message, which would be sent ONLY in the UsAdmin
conference, and must be in this Exact format and
addressed to NETWORK-ID SYSTEM
subject of SET NODE INFORMATION
REMOTEUPDATE <<First line of msg, Flush Left!
NODE-ID: NEW <<Tells it to assign YOU an ID
HUB-ID: 000 <<Your HUB's ID
SYSOP-FIRST: Jack
SYSOP-LAST: SysOp
DATE-OF-BIRTH: 10-24-52
ADDRESS-1: (blank if not needed)
ADDRESS-2: 220 South BBS Lane
CITY: Orange Town
STATE: IL
ZIP: 73699
SYSOP-VOICE: 305-555-1212
BBS-NAME: Jack's Place BBS
NUMBER-OF-NODES: 2
BBS-SOFTWARE: PCBoard 15
BBS-NUMBER: 305-555-1515
MODEM-TYPE: v.32 14,400
D-1: Over 100 doors! -- Qmail4 Mail Door
D-2: 200 File Directories - 30-Gigs ready for Downloading
D-3: 60 Online Games -- Remote Image Protocol Support
D-4: Specializing in the Strange and Un-Identified!!
DATE-BBS-STARTED: 10-90
Ok, from this information above, a node list is generated, and
a monthly BBSad is generated with the d-1 thru d-4 lines.
Your messages from your board (identified by your network-id #
in your tagline) are counted and placed in reports that are
generated and sent to you.
As for the Modem types, these should be used;
v.32 9600
v.32 14,400
USR D/S 14,400
USR D/S 16.8
2400 baud
1200/2400
v.Fast (when it arrives<G>)
As for the BBS software, use a simple format like;
PCBoard 15.0
WildCat! 4.0
RemoteAccess
Be VERY aware of the telephone formats, as no other will work,
it must be ###-###-#### or it will get chopped off.
Oh, and because of the nature of the information which the
UsAdmin conference carries, NO ONE EXCEPT UsNetMail SYSOPS
ARE ALLOW IN THE UsAdmin CONFERENCE!!!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!
================= WHAT PROGRAMS DO YOU NEED? =================
On your side you will need: Tnet20.zip for Wildcat Pre V3.0
Tnet30.zip for Wildcat v3.0+
Qnet30b.zip for Pcboard Systems
Rnet200a.zip for Pcboard Systems
The above are used to insert and extract messages in/out of
your BBS system's message bases.
You must also have some way to call and exchange mail. Your
current modem communications program (Telemate, Qmodem, etc) and
an appropriate script. OR use ROBOCOMM v4.2 which is the
program 'of choice' to carry out the exchanging of mail packets.
RoboComm is usually found under the file names ROBO42-A.ZIP &
ROBO42-B.ZIP, which you should be able to find locally.
I think that both YOU and your callers will enjoy UsNetMail.
