LogWarn v1.1 released June 26, 1993
(c) Copyright 1993
After all these years I still don't understand why Novell's LOGIN.EXE
doesn't give user another chance if he/she typed in login name and/or
password incorrectly. About 90% of the users yell at me like "Shree
what's the matter with your network, I can't print or I can't access my
e-mail or I can't access any CD-ROMs on the server". Then I just type
userlist and find that those users are not logged in. When I say the
same thing they say "what do you mean I am not logged in, it asked me
for a password and I entered it, I do this every day".
So I used a batch file to check (included with this package) if the user
is correctly logged in or not. But I found some problems with that batch
file. Especially if a user log's out from a drive other that the default
Login drive (The drive next to last drive) they have to run login twice.
With my little experience in C programming I created this LOGWARN.EXE.
This program does an excellent job giving users another chance to login.
It displays an error message if they failed all attemps or if they finally
quits.
Installation:
Step 1: Copy LOGWARN.EXE to Netware LOGIN directory.
Step 2: Rename Novell's LOGIN.EXE to LOGME.EXE.
Step 3: Rename LOGWARN.EXE to LOGIN.EXE
(Since Netware's PUBLIC directory also includes LOGIN.EXE file, I
would recommend making the same changes in the PUBLIC directory too.)
Eventhough the final message is hard coded, the future version will let
you display custom messages and news. Above all this is FREE.
Conditions: There is no charge for you or your company to use this software
on a Netware Servers. Likewise their are no warranties or
guarantees of any sort. You may distribute copies via disk or
BBS provided no charge is made for the software. The entire
package, including this LOGWARN.DOC file, should be included in
the distribution.
Support: Time permitting I will try to fix any bugs you may come across.
Requests for enhancements may be considered as well. If I can't
make it I will try to get some help from my friends (programmers).
If you need to have any custom messages (other than the default
message) feel free to ask me. We can work out something which
does not include any charge.
Limitations: If the first attempt fails the user have to retype his/her login
name again. The program will not remember the user's login
name in the second attempt and so on, if the user has entered
his/her login name in AUTOEXEC.BAT file. This option will be
added in the next release.
Tested on Netware V3.11, should work with Netware V2.0a and up.
If there are any problems or suggestions please contact me at
Compuserve (id 72370,105) or at my internet address (see below).
Enjoy! and have a nice day.
