Introduction
------------
Inserts a file in new uploaded files with important info about file. This
program will insert a text file into a new .ZIP or .ARJ uploaded file
showing information such as, Who uploaded it, When they uploaded it, File
name and file description. If no description is given when uploaded it
will search the file for a "Desc.Sdi" or a "File_Id.Diz" and get the
description from them. If a file is checked by a virus testing program
and is converted to another extension, it is smart enough to detect the
change and still process the file. With v3.5 ADDAD will also, optionally,
read your "comment" file and insert it into the uploaded file as a comment.
Excellent for checking back on a file later when you don't have that info.
at hand.

What is Shareware?
------------------
Shareware is a form of distribution which gives users a chance to try
software before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
to use it, you are expected to register. Individual programs differ on
details -- some request registration while others require it, some
specify a maximum trial period. With registration, you get anything
from the simple right to continue using the software to an updated
program with printed manual.
Registration
------------
If you find ADDAD useful and you continue to use it after a reasonable
(30 days) trial period, you are required to make a registration payment
of $15.00 to Larry Edwards. See "REGIS.TXT" for more information.
The $15.00 registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
computer at any one time.
You must treat a registered version of this software just like a book.
Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the same time,
this software may be used by any number of people and may be freely moved
from one computer location to another, as long as there is no possibility
of it being used in two different locations at the same time.
Commercial users of ADDAD must register and pay for their copies of the
program within 15 days of first use or their license is withdrawn. For
site-license information, contact the author direct.
You are encouraged to pass (unregistered) copies of ADDAD along
to your friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their
copy if they find that they can use it. All registered users can get
a registered version of ADDAD by calling my BBS and downloading it.
(See REGIS.TXT for more details)
Please fill out the included registration order form (file REGIS.TXT)
and send in your registration today. You can send REGIS.TXT to your
printer by typing:
"COPY REGIS.TXT PRN" (without the quotes)
and then pressing ENTER while at the MS-DOS prompt.
What Do I Get for Registering, and Why Should I?
------------------------------------------------
Here are some reasons why you should register:
o You can pick up a registered copy of the program by calling my BBS,
which does not show the "UNREGISTERED" line at the bottom of the
output file.
o You get a LIFETIME license, meaning you're entitled to all future
versions/upgrades of ADDAD.
o You get unlimited technical support via surface mail or electronic
mail.
o You have the author's ear when it comes to suggesting new features
and capabilities.
o You help increase competition in the software industry by keeping
prices low (shareware doesn't rely on expensive advertising).
o Finally, you can be proud of the honesty and integrity you've shown
in registering the program and having participated in the Shareware
revolution.
Installation
------------
Installation is very easy, simply extract the ADDAD.EXE file to the
WILDCAT Home directory(this is also where the Activity.log file is kept).
You will need to create a file called "ADDAD.CFG" here is mine:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
C:\WC30\UPLOADS
This file passed through the TINKER SOFTWARE BBS located in Kent, Wa.
on its way to you. This is a support BBS for all programs written by
TINKER SOFTWARE or Larry Edwards. The BBS operates 24 Hours a day so
feel free to give us a call at (206) 852-7708 or (206) 854-9603.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The first line is the PATH to where all of your new uploads go, note
there is NO "\" at the end of the line. The program needs this line
so it knows where to find the files. The next 4 lines are up to you
to use any way you want. They can just contain info. about your BBS or
they can be a full blown ad for whatever. You MUST have 4 lines and
each line can have a MAXIMUM of 70 characters. The "ADDAD.CFG" file
also goes into your Wildcat home directory.
Upgrading
---------
Simply copy this new .exe file over the old one, then if you want ADDAD
to add your comments to the file change the command line. (see below)
OPERATION
---------
You will need to start the program from a "POSTCALL.RUN"(or .BAT) file
as the program needs to know immediately after log off if any new files
were uploaded. I won't go into detail on creating and running the above
file as Mustang Software explains it in the Manual that comes with the
WILDCAT BBS system. Here is the line that you need added to your
"POSTCALL.RUN" file to start ADDAD:
ADDAD ACTIVITY.001
ADDAD - Starts the program followed by the NAME of the correct Activity.log.
Warning
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
IF YOU ARE USING A PROGRAM SUCH AS "TRANSCAN" or "CATSCAN" I RECOMMEND YOU
MAKE THIS THE FIRST LINE IN YOUR POSTCALL.x FILE, AS THESE PROGRAMS COULD
POSSIBLY MOVE THE FILE OUT OF THE DIRECTORY BEFORE ADDAD HAS A CHANCE TO
DO ITS JOB.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I suggest you add this line for each POSTCALL.RUN that you have in use, but
be sure to change the name of the Activity.log to the correct one, that way
all uploads will be covered. It should not be necessary to add the Path to
the Activity.log file as the program will look for it through your PATH
statement in the Autoexec.bat file, nor do you need to do a change
directory from the NODEx directory to the Home directory as the program
will do this itself, preferably it should be started and run from
within the NODEx directory. BTW, I have been informed that the line:
ADDAD Activity.00%WCNODEID%
will also work.
If you want ADDAD to add the contents of your comment text file you will
need to add the COMPLETE Path and File name to the command line:
ADDAD ACTIVITY.001 C:\WC30\COMMENT.TXT
Whats New
---------
12/10/93 - v3.2 released.
12/11/93 - Worked on v3.3 to address some minor bugs, v3.3 not released.
12/12/93 - V3.4 released, known bugs fixed and added .ARJ support along
with the ability to process local uploads.
12/17/93 - Added support, if no description given by uploader, to locate
a description file and use it. Also added code to detect a
change in the .ext of file if it was changed by a checking
program.
Added ability to insert the contents of a Comment file into
the upload as a comment.(Why run more programs than needed?)
