  9.     PROPOSE IT! will:
  10.     
  11.         *   Help you create a highly professional set of
  12.             proposals for a variety of situations.
  13.     
  14.         *   Save you many hours of work.

  17.     Requirements
  18.     ------------
  19.     
  20.         Any PC or compatible with a word processing or page
  21.     layout program.  Ideally the program should have "Mail
  22.     Merge" capability.  These files are designed for use by
  23.     those with a basic (not advanced) knowledge of word
  24.     processing.
  25.     
  26.         The text files are in WordPerfect 5.1 (*.WP),
  27.     Microsoft Works 2.0 (*.WPS) and ASCII (*.TXT) formats.
  28.     Any later versions and also many other competitive
  29.     programs such as WordStar, Word, or Multimate should be
  30.     able to import these files.
  31.     
  32.         I am very partial to laser printers as they give a
  33.     more professional appearance to your documents, but it
  34.     is not an absolute requirement.
  35.     
  36.         A Macintosh version is also available.  It is located on
  37.     CompuServe, Ziffnet, GEnie, Delphi, America OnLine, BMUG,
  38.     and BCS-Mac, as well as several shareware vendors.

  41.         PURPOSE:
  42.         
  43.          Thank you for taking a look at "Propose It!".  This
  44.     is a program to help you write proposals.  Proposals are
  45.     used to make sales, win bids and present ideas.  They
  46.     can be used in the public and private sectors.  They are
  47.     also useful for presentations in larger companies.
  48.  
  49.         PROPOSE IT!  supplies you with complete template
  50.     files.  I give you professional formats (footnootes,
  51.     tables of contents, some simple graphics) AND some
  52.     excellent sample text for you to use.  Alone these could
  53.     save you many hundreds of hours of work.  Because of the
  54.     wide diversity of businesses, I have tried to make these
  55.     files as universal as possible.  Over time, you will
  56.     likely incorporate your own language into the text and
  57.     make modifications to the worksheets.

  59.         Please work on copies of these files in case you trash
  60.     one.  It happens to all of us!

  65.     QUICK START
  66.     -----------

  68.         If you want to get started quickly, just read these few
  69.     lines:
  70.     
  71.         FIRST, take a look at what is here in the "List of
  72.     Files" section.
  73.     
  74.         Get into your word processing program.
  75.     
  76.         Open one of the files listed.  Personalize the
  77.     document for your company.  Open the file "MERGE.DOC"
  78.     and enter the information noted.  Merge the documents
  79.     according to the procedures of your word processing
  80.     program.

  82.         To access the files in WordPerfect 5.1, hit <F5>
  83.     (List Files), change to the A directory (or the
  84.     directory on your hard drive where the PROPOSE IT!
  85.     files are located), then retrieve one of the files by
  86.     highlighting it with your cursor and entering "1".
  87.     You can use "MERGE.WP" for your merge file.
  88.     
  89.         To access the files from MS Works, use "File
  90.     Open" and then look for them in the directory you placed
  91.     them in.

  93.         If you are now hopelessly lost, take a look at the
  94.     User's Guide.  By registering at the *PROFESSIONAL* level, I
  95.     send you a printed User's Guide along with other valuable
  96.     items.

  104.          The files are in three formats: ASCII text,
  105.     WordPerfect 5.1 and Microsoft Works 2.0.  All files with
  106.     an .ASC extension are ASCII files and can be imported
  107.     into any word processing or page layout program.  Check
  108.     your particular documentation to see how to import ASCII
  109.     files.  All files with a .WP extension are WordPerfect
  110.     5.1 files and can be opened by this or any later version
  111.     of WordPerfect.  Files with a *.WPS extension are
  112.     Microsoft Works v2.0 files.  The "MERGE.DOC" file is a
  113.     generic file.  It may need to be altered to work with
  114.     your particular software.

  118.         Cover Letter

  120.          Use this letter with larger proposals.  It isn't
  121.     good form to just send out a proposal without a cover
  122.     letter.  People like to know what they are receiving.
  123.     Use this file with the merge file (MERGE.DOC, MERGE.WP,
  124.     or MERGE.WPD).

  138.          Often a proposal in letter form can be very effective
  139.     for small projects or when you want to include a "close" in
  140.     a letter.  Most effective when used with the "Overview"
  141.     below.  Use with the merge file (MERGE.DOC, MERGE.WP, or
  142.     MERGE.WPS).

  188.     support unregistered users during their evaluation period,
  189.     but we will give priority to registered users, if necessary.

  196.     What SHAREWARE is:

  199.         Shareware describes a method of distributing copyrighted
  200.     software in which a user is allowed to fully evaluate the
  201.     software before purchasing it.  After an evaluation period,
  202.     the user is required to register the product if he decides
  203.     to keep using it.

  205.         Shareware distribution addresses all of the legitimate
  206.     complaints that users have with commercial software
  207.     distribution.

  209.       o Shareware allows a user to fully evaluate a product,
  210.         free of charge, in his or her home or business, *before*
  211.         deciding to buy it.

  213.       o Shareware programs can circulate freely on Bulletin
  214.         Boards, through Shareware disk distributors, or through
  215.         user groups.

  217.       o Because Shareware distribution reduces the need to
  218.         advertise, Shareware is less expensive than commercial

  230.     show their appreciation to developers for this extremely
  231.     flexible distribution scheme by registering their software.

  233.     gradually disappear.  It is not sufficient to simply let the
  234.     "other guy" pay the registration.  You are the other guy's
  235.     "other guy".

  241.         Shareware is not "free" software.  Shareware is not
  242.     Public Domain software.  The fee that you may have paid to
  243.     receive a Shareware program does not mean that the software
  244.     has been paid for.  This money was paid to a Shareware disk
  245.     vendor, User Group, Bulletin Board Service or retailer to
  246.     cover their cost of getting the program to you.  Shareware
  247.     software is paid for by registering your copy with the

  282.         PROPOSE IT!  is a dynamic program.  PROPOSE IT!  has
  283.     changed considerably since its conception, and it has
  284.     been further enhanced since its Shareware release.  I
  285.     originally wrote PROPOSE IT!  after realizing that I had
  286.     been using the same files for over two years while
  287.     writing proposals for various companies. I have already
  288.     spent thousands of hours developing this program.

  291.     expressing my confidence in the public to "Do the Right
