  14. o Overview
  15. Accounts Receivable is a state-of-the-art program that doggedly
  16. tracks receivables.  The program prints invoices and statements
  17. on standard 8 1/2 x 11 inch letterhead stock for use with window
  18. envelopes.  Accounts Receivable has a short learning curve, on
  19. line help plus point-and-click capability.  Features include
  20. customer templates, undo command, selective invoice display and
  21. single-key account and aging summaries.  This version of Accounts
  22. Receivable is distributed as shareware and is entirely supported
  23. by registration fees.  Versions, customized to your requirements,
  24. are available.
  25.  
  26. o Hardware Requirements
  27. Accounts Receivable is a Windows 3.1 application that runs in
  28. either standard or enhanced mode.  DOS version 3.1 or later and
  29. an 80286 or higher processor are required.  While not required,
  30. a mouse and printer are recommended.  Approximately 600KB of free
  31. disk space is required for initial installation.  Accounts
  32. Receivable is supplied on one 5 1/4 or 3 1/2 inch disk.  Before
  33. using the disk, make a backup copy and read this document.
  34.  
  35. o Test Drive
  36. In a pinch, Accounts Receivable can run from a floppy drive. 
  37. When operated from a floppy drive, Accounts Receivable operates
  38. much slower than it would from a hard drive.  You can take
  39. Accounts Receivable for a test drive without installing it on
  40. your hard disk.  To take a test drive, perform the following:
  41.  
  42. 1. Place the Accounts Receivable disk in drive A or B.
  43. 2. Select Run from the Windows Program Manager File Menu.  After
  44.    the dialog box appears, type one of the following in the
  45.    Command Line text box: A:AR or B:AR then choose OK.
  46. 3. If all has gone well, the receivables display will appear. 
  47. 4. Accounts Receivable has a short learning curve.  On-line help
  48.    is designed to be read as a manual.  Before you begin, read
  49.    the help file sequentially.
  50.  
  51. o Installation
  52. Accounts Receivable can be installed from Windows or the DOS
  53. prompt.  Neither DOS nor Windows files are disturbed during
  54. installation.  The distribution disk contains a DLL file plus
  55. the following:
  56.  
  57.             AR.BIN         AR.INI          README.TXT
  58.             AR.EXE         AR.TEM          TUTOR1.AR
  59.             AR.HLP         INSTALL.EXE     TUTOR2.AR
  60.  
  61. To install Accounts Receivable from Windows, perform the
  62. following:
  63.  
  64. 1. Place the Accounts Receivable disk in drive A or B.
  65. 2. From the Windows Program Manager File Menu, select Run. 
  66. 3. After the dialog box appears type: A:INSTALL or B:INSTALL then
  67.    choose OK. 
  68. 4. After the Install display appears, follow the directions on
  69.    the screen.
  70.  
  71.    Note: INSTALL.EXE and README.TXT are not installed or required
  72.          after Accounts Receivable is installed.
  73.  
  74. To install Accounts Receivable from the DOS prompt, create a
  75. directory, place the Accounts Receivable disk in a floppy drive
  76. then use DOS commands to copy the files.  In the following
  77. examples, if a directory or drive designator other than that
  78. shown is used, substitute the correct directory name and/or drive
  79. designator.  Note that the carriage return key is shown as ENTER. 
  80. As an example, if Accounts Receivable is to be installed in a
  81. directory named AR on drive C the following steps are
  82. required:
  83.  
  84. 1. From the root directory DOS C prompt type: MD\AR ENTER.
  85. 2. From the root directory DOS C prompt type: CD\AR ENTER.
  86. 3. Place the Accounts Receivable disk in drive A then type:
  87.    COPY A:*.* ENTER.
  88.  
  89.    Note: While the example installs all files, INSTALL.EXE and
  90.          README.TXT are not required after Accounts Receivable is
  91.          installed.

  93. After files have been installed from the DOS prompt, Accounts
  94. Receivable may be added to an existing group with Program
  95. Manager.  The procedure shown adds Accounts Receivable to an
  96. existing Windows 3.1 group.  If a Windows version later than
  97. 3.1 is used the procedure may vary; refer to the Windows User's
  98. Guide.  To add Accounts Receivable to a Windows 3.1 group the
  99. following steps are required:
  100.  
  101. 1. Open the applicable group window.
  102. 2. From the Program Manger File Menu select New.
  103. 3. After the dialog box appears, select Program Item then choose
  104.    OK.
  105. 4. In the Program Item Properties Description text box type:
  106.    Accounts Receivable.  Note the upper case A and R.
  107. 5. In the Program Item Command Line text box type the complete
  108.    pathname required to locate the program.  For example, if 
  109.    Accounts Receivable has been installed in the AR directory on
  110.    drive C type: C:\AR\AR.EXE.
  111. 6. In the Working Directory text box, type the name of the
  112.    directory where the program resides.  If Accounts Receivable
  113.    is installed in the AR directory on drive C, type: C:\AR.
  114. 7. Check the entries carefully then select OK.
  115.  
  116. o Removal
  117. Accounts Receivable files are installed in a single directory. 
  118. Neither DOS nor Windows files are disturbed during installation. 
  119. If for any reason Accounts Receivable has to be removed from your
  120. hard drive, the following steps are required.
  121.  
  122. 1. Delete all files from the Accounts Receivable directory.
  123. 2. Delete the Accounts Receivable directory.
  124. 3. Open the Windows group that contains Accounts Receivable.  Set
  125.    the focus to the Accounts Receivable icon.  Select Delete from
  126.    the Windows Program Manager File Menu and respond to the
  127.    prompts.

  129. o Starting Accounts Receivable
  130. If Accounts Receivable is in a Windows group, open the group
  131. window then double click on the Accounts Receivable icon.  If
  132. Accounts Receivable is installed in the AR directory on drive C
  133. and not assigned to a group, from the Program Manager File Menu
  134. select Run.  In the Command Line text box type: C:\AR\AR then
  135. choose OK.  Accounts Receivable's on-line help is designed to be
  136. read as a manual.  Before you begin, read the help file
  137. sequentially.
