- NOTE: This is a BETA release, we make no warranty
that this will work.
- A VGA/SVGA video adaptor is required.
- 2.5 megs of HD are required to operate.
- A MS compatible mouse is required.
- 16550A UART is highly recommended.
- Math chip (or 486DX) will increase speed.

───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Welcome to FXTERM v0.03ß this is the second public BETA of the our
new terminal package. FXTERM has been designed to take full advantage of
the new Tel-FX graphics standard (also by Hamilton TeleGraphics Inc.).
Please read this short BETA document carefully.
──────────────
Fixes in v0.03
──────────────
- Faster input boxes.
- Add panning ability to protocol.
- Some IO bugs resolved.
- Terminal entry boxes (like the phone number eidtor) no longer
read from the modem.
──────────────
Fixes in v0.02
──────────────
- Compiled 16bit (only requires 286, to many people were
concerned about the 386 only version).
- Has full JPEG/GrayPEG support.
- Inline text varaibles.
- Corrected Zmodem protocol entry and exit code.
- Accelerated Text editor and scrolling objects.
- Greatly accelerated graphics and ansi throughput
- Should fix ANSI mode troubles (Its a Beta)
- Should fix MS 9.0 mouse driver conflicts (Its a Beta)
- Fixed Dos shell.
- Fixed AutoLogon (just insert your name and passwerd in the
dialing directory entry editor).

Graphics Support
──────────────────
FXTERM is always in graphics mode. This provides you a powerful interface
in any supported emulation, and a seamless link between ANSI and Tel-FX
emulation. For your viewing enjoyment we have provided four video modes,
ranging from run of the mill VGA 640x480 16 colour to state of the art
SVGA 1024x768 256 colour. For the highest viewing speed, and smallest
swap file you should run FXTERM in 16 colour mode (-16col on the command
line).
FXTERM supports the following video modes directly:
640x480x16 (256k VGA)
640x480x256 (512k VGA)
800x600x256 (512/1024K VGA)
1024x768x256 (1024K VGA)
The following video cards are supported directly:
TSENG ET3000, PARADISE, VIDEO 7, ATI, TSENG4 ET4000, TRIDENT, VESA
If you don't have one of these video cards, please check your video card
manual or the disk that came with your video card for a VESA driver. A
VESA driver allows your video card to respond in a generic way that
FXTERM can understand (some newer cards have it built in). It should be
noted, that due to the way VESA drivers work, there may be a noticable
(and with cheaper video cards substantial) performance break down. Some
VESA drivers may break up communications if a 16550A is not present.
FXterm will try to start in 640x480x256 but will drop to 640x480x16 if a
non-compatible card is found. The following command line switches will
attempt to force a certain video mode:
-16col (640x480x16)
-H800 (800x600x256)
-H1024 (1024x768x256)
────────────
IO Support
────────────
FXTERM supports 3 IO modes, UART, FOSSIL or DIGI. With each all
the same features and and options are present. It is recommended that
you have a DigiBOARD or FOSSIL driver present if you intend to use
these IO modes.
We highly recommend a 16550A UART for any communications at 9600 or
greater. The terminal will work without one, however inbound characters
may be lost causing garble or CRC errors. A 16550A resolves this with
small buffers that catch the characters before they are lost. If you are
running accross a LAN, then a 16550A is probably required. Due to the
work load a LAN can place on a system, inbound characters may be lost
without one.
FOSSIL support has been added so that SysOps can call without having
to dissable there FOSSIL driver. On some non-standard IO cards this may
be the only option.
DigiBOARD support has been added for those SysOps or users who have
one. A DigiBOARD is a high speed, buffered IO controller with an onboard
IO processor (our PC/8i has 128k of ram and a 80186 CPU on it). Most
DigiBOARDs can handle baud rates up to 115200 baud on multiple ports
concurrently without missing a character. FXTERM requires that DigiBOARD
ports start at 1 (or that the port you are using is numbered between
1 and 8). Check your XIDOS driver configuration program.
