  9.         This 'CHECKOUT' BBS distributes software for the sole purpose
  10.       of testing prior to purchase.  You've 24 hours to try the software
  11.       and determine that it is worth  purchasing, then you must  destroy
  12.       it.   The  BBS Sysop feels  that it is  unfair to  computer  users
  13.       that they are unable to evaluate software to see if it suits their
  14.       needs.  Many  users have purchased products by the way the program
  15.       'looks' on the box and have been extremely disappointed - and have
  16.       therefore wasted their money and (more important) time.  Nobody in
  17.       their right  mind would purchase a  car  without  test  driving it
  18.       first,  or  for  that  matter...purchase  clothes  without  trying
  19.       them  on, so how  can  software  vendors  expect users to  buy one
  20.       of their products without first testing it?  They will send copies
  21.       of their software to large corporations to test but seem to forget
  22.       there are also other users in the market willing to purchase their
  23.       product if it meets their needs.   This is where this checkout BBS
  24.       comes in.   This program is for evaluation only,  if you like this
  25.       product  then  go  to  your  local computer store and purchase it,
  26.       otherwise PLEASE do not USE or in anyway DISTRIBUTE this  product!
  27.       There are many advantages to purchasing this product including:

  29.       1) Technical Support: Software vendors set  up  technical  support
  30.                          lines  for  the  purpose  of  helping  their
  31.                       registered users get the  most  out  of  the
  32.                         product and help with any bug concerns, etc.
  33.                 It is to your advantage to be  able  to  use
  34.                 this (and the many features of the program).

  36.       2) Manuals:           Manuals are  a  very  important  part  of  a
  37.                       software package.  No book  or text file can
  38.                     replace the  original  manuals,  which  come
  39.                 with the product. This enables  the  user to
  40.                 get the most out of the package,  especially
  41.                 with the very complex programs of today.

  43.       3) Upgrades:          With  buying  the  original program, you are
  44.                 entitled  to  low priced or free upgrades to
  45.                 new versions, bug fixes, and 'enhancements'.

  47.       4) Legality:          Using a program  without owning a registered
  48.                 copy is illegal.

  50.       5) Control Of The     When  companies  who  create  good  products
  51.          Industry:          are  supported,  it  reinforces the need for
  52.                      good products and helps the company continue
  53.                 to create more  quality  products.   On  the
  54.                 other hand, companies who create substandard
  55.                 products have  two  options; either  improve
  56.                 their products or get out of the industry.

  58.       Until  companies come up with a better  way  of  allowing  users  to
  59.       test their products before purchasing, 'checkout' BBSs will continue
  60.       to make available products  for  your  testing.  Companies  recently
  61.       have started to head in this  direction and you can now return  some
  62.       products  to  the  company  if  you  are  not  completely  satisfied
  63.       (Norton, and a few others), but this does not remedy  the  situation
  64.       as the refund/credit takes a long time to get processed and is a BIG
  65.       hassle!   We feel that under the current software industry standards
  66.       of doing business, that evaluating software releases prior to actual
  67.       purchase is still the best solution.
