  4. Welcome to the mod editor ! It helps you to create your own 
  5. mods of ReBirth 338.

  21. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  22. ===================
  23. ╖    Windows 95 or NT
  24. ╖    Full Version of ReBirth 338 (V1.5 recommended)
  25. ╖    All you need for ReBirth.
  26. ╖    Internet Explorer 3.0 or worse is recommended (for 
  27.   ComCtl32.dll V4.70 or higher).

  30. INSTALLATION
  31. ============
  32. 1.    Unzip the zip file (if not already done)
  33. 2.    Copy all files in one directory, e.g. C:\ReNovator
  34. 3.    Start the program by double-clicking ReNovator. You will 
  35.     be asked whether it shall create an entry in the start 
  36.     menu.

  42. SHORT MANUAL
  43. ============

  45. General
  46. -------
  47. The left list shows either samples or bitmaps that are 
  48. contained in the executable file. (Change the view by 
  49. clicking on the corresponding page selector). You load an exefile by 
  50. clicking on the Open button.
  51.  
  52. The right list is an audio or bitmap file browser. By 
  53. clicking on the folders, you change the current folder. 
  54. Additionally, you have the toolbar buttons "Browse Dir" to 
  55. change directly to another folder or to change the drive, 
  56. "Dir Up" to change to the parent folder and "Refresh" which 
  57. reloads this folder. Further help in navigation are the 
  58. bookmarks which work like in a web browser.

  60. Wavefiles have a yellow icon, AIFF files are blue.
  61.  
  62. Especially we encourage you to try all functions. They 
  63. exlain better than words what they do :)
  64.  
  65. Step by step 
  66. ------------ 
  67. 1. Open a Rebirth.exe. If you have installed Rebirth 
  68. properly, it also appears as shortcut in the file menu.
  69.  
  70. 2. To view a bitmap or listen to a sample, click on it. 
  71. (Enter or Space does it, too)
  72.  
  73. 3. Now browse in the right list to a folder where you have 
  74. stored bitmaps or samples for replacement.
  75.  
  76. 4. Drag from the right to the left list the file you want to 
  77. replace. Upon successful replacement, the icon changes.
  78.  
  79. 5. Repeat step 3 and 4 for every bitmap and sample you want 
  80. to replace.

  82. 6. Save the new file by clicking on the Save button. Note: 
  83. You can't overwrite the currently open file.

  85. 7. Start the program by clicking the Run button.

  88. Gimmicks
  89. ========
  90. You can change the names of the resources in the left list 
  91. by "click and wait" (like in the explorer). These names are 
  92. saved to the ReNovator.ini file. They will be reloaded 
  93. automatically when opening the same exe again.
  94.  
  95. To save samples that are contained in the exe to the current 
  96. folder, drag them into the right list. The created files 
  97. will be named like in the left list.
  98. In order to save all bitmaps or samples with their 
  99. "original" resource numbers, click in the Resources menu on 
  100. Extract all.

  102. To change to the folder of a replaced resource, simply
  103. double-click on the item in the left list.
  104.  
  105. To detach a replaced resource and make visible again the
  106. original resource, click right on the item in the left list
  107. and choose detach.
  108.  
  109. The most important functions are doubled in pop-up menus.

  112. LIMITS
  113. ====== 
  114. No automatic conversion of audio files with another format 
  115. than in the executable.

  124. ======
  125. Until now, a strange peep sound when importing a .rnv 
  126. file under Win95.
