IBM THINKPAD 365X/560/760E PRELOAD REFERENCE CD-ROM (PC DOS/WINDOWS 3.11)
ATTENTION: The software contained on the diskette and the CD-ROM in
this package is to be used only for installing the Preload Reference
on an IBM ThinkPad 365X/560/760E. Hardware or software damage might
occur if the preinstalled version of the software is installed on other
computers.
This Preload Reference (PC DOS/Windows 3.11) CD-ROM does not contain
the applications that you received preinstalled with Windows95.
If you wish to continue using these applications with PC DOS/Windows 3.11,
you must build the application installation diskettes from Diskette
Factory in the Windows95 preload prior to using this CD-ROM to
destroy the Windows95 preload. After using this CD-ROM to install
the Preload Reference (PC DOS/Windows 3.11), you can use those
diskettes to reinstall your applications.

REQUIREMENTS:
To use this CD to reload a hard drive, you MUST have the following:
1. IBM ThinkPad 365X/560/760E Preload Reference Boot Diskette
If the diskette is not included in your package, you MUST create
it using the BUILDDSK program included on the CD. You will need
a blank 1.44 MB diskette and a computer with a working CD-ROM
drive and diskette drive.
To create the Boot Diskette:
- Insert the Preload Reference CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
- Change to the LOADSOFT directory on the CD-ROM drive.
- Type BUILDDSK and press ENTER.
- Insert a blank 1.44MB diskette into the diskette drive,
and press Y to continue.
2. IBM ThinkPad 365X/560/760E Preload Reference CD-ROM
(included in this package)
3. Diskette drive A of the ThinkPad as the startup drive.
4. One of the following:
a. IBM DOCK I 760E's
b. IBM SelectaDock I with Ultrabay 4X CD-ROM drive 760E's
c. IBM DOCK II using DOCK I SCSI CD-ROM drive 760E's
d. IBM DOCK II using (IBM) ISA CD-ROM drive 760E's
e. IBM DOCK II using (IBM) IDE CD-ROM drive 760E's
f. Replace internal diskette drive with CD-ROM drive 760ED/760ELD
g. Internal CD-ROM drive with external diskette drive 365XD
h. Disctec Parallel Port CD-ROM drive 365X/560/760E's
i. Host to ThinkPad via parallel cable (INTERLNK) 365X/560/760E's
Parallel-port cable connection (INTERLNK) between a computer
with a CD-ROM drive (host) and the ThinkPad to be reloaded
(target). The host computer must have DOS 6.0 (or later) or
Windows95 installed and be connected to the target computer
with an INTERLNK- or LapLink-compatible cable.

RECOVERING THE PREINSTALLED SOFTWARE:
ATTENTION: The data on your hard drive will be destroyed. Be sure
that you have backed up all of your data and applications before
running this program. After you have installed the Preload Reference
PC DOS/Windows 3.11 on your hard drive, you can install your
application programs that were originally on your computer.
1. Start the Preload Reference Process.
a. Make sure the PC is powered off.
b. Insert the Preload Reference Diskette into drive A of the PC.
c. Power on the PC. The program will start automatically.
NOTE: Do not insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive until
told to do so.
2 a. Choose Type of Computer
Select the appropriate choice to match your ThinkPad model.
b. Select your CD-ROM drive from the CD-ROM Drive List.
From this menu you can select to reinstall the software
from one of the CD-ROM drives listed under item 4 of the
Requirements section above.
3. Format the Drive.
ATTENTION: The ThinkPad hard drive will be formatted so that the
Preload Reference (PC DOS/Windows 3.11) can be installed.
The data on your hard drive will be destroyed.
Before you can recover the preinstalled software, the hard drive
partition that contains the operating system must be formatted.
This program will reformat the entire hard drive, or format only
the drive C partition (if you have previously partitioned your
hard drive).
Select the appropriate choice.
a. Format the entire hard drive and recover the preinstalled
software.
This selection will FDISK and FORMAT your entire hard drive.
Every file on the hard drive will be deleted, all partitions
removed, and the preinstalled software will be reinstalled on
your hard drive.
b. Format drive C only and recover the preinstalled software.
This selection will format drive C only and recover the
preinstalled software. If your hard drive has multiple
partitions, only the data on drive C will be deleted.
4. Install the Preload Reference (PC DOS/Windows 3.11).
Once your selection is made, the Preload Reference program will
begin to initialize. When the system returns to the A: prompt:
- Leave the Preload Reference Diskette in drive A.
- Restart the computer by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL.
- Press C to continue with formatting or N to cancel the
formatting and go to a DOS prompt.
A message will be displayed when the installation of the Preload
Reference has completed.
If you are performing the installation process using INTERLNK,
pressing C will continue the formatting and also verify the
connection of the INTERLNK cable between the host computer and the
target computer. If the connection is good, the blue INTERLNK
screen will appear on the target computer with the drive letters
assigned. Continue with Step 4a.
a. Install the Preload Reference Using INTERLNK.
Before continuing, ensure the CD-ROM drive in the host
computer is working, and the INTERLNK cable is properly
connected to the parallel ports of the target and host
computers. If your host computer has DOS or DOS with Windows
3.1 installed, go to Step 4b. If your host computer has
Windows95 installed, go to Step 4c.
b. Install the Preload Reference using a Host Computer with DOS
or DOS/Windows 3.x.
To recover your preinstalled software from a host computer
using DOS or DOS/Windows 3.x:
1) Be sure the blue INTERLNK screen is on the target computer
with drive letters assigned.
2) On the host computer, change to the CD-ROM drive.
3) Type HOST and press ENTER. The host computer will
restart.
4) After the host computer restarts, if you are using
Windows, exit from Windows.
5) At the DOS command prompt, change to the LOADSOFT
directory on the CD-ROM drive.
6) On the target computer, press any key to start the
INTERLNK session.
7) On the host computer, type LOAD and press ENTER.
8) When the completion message is displayed, on the target
computer press ALT+F4 to exit from INTERLNK.
ATTENTION: You must press Alt+F4 to exit from the
INTERLNK session in order for the installation process
to complete successfully. When you have exited from
INTERLNK, some batch files will be executed.
c. Install the Preload Reference Using a Host Computer with
Windows95:
To recover your preinstalled software from a host computer
using Windows95:
1) Be sure the blue INTERLNK screen is on the target
computer.
2) On the host computer, click on START in Windows95.
3) Go to PROGRAMS and click on MS DOS PROMPT.
4) Change to your CD-ROM drive; type HOST and press ENTER.
If changes are made to the CONFIG.SYS file on the host
computer, they will be displayed.
5) Type EXIT to close the window on the host computer.
6) On the target computer, press any key to start the
INTERLNK session.
7) On the host computer, click on START and then SHUT DOWN.
8) From the Shutdown Window, click on RESTART THE COMPUTER
and select YES. The Host computer will restart.
9) Click on START; go to PROGRAMS and click on MS DOS PROMPT.
10) At the prompt, type D:LOAD and press ENTER.
11) Make sure the Preload Reference CD-ROM is in the CD-ROM
drive of the host computer; then press Y.
12) When the completion message is displayed, on the target
computer press ALT+F4 to exit from INTERLNK.
ATTENTION: You must press Alt+F4 to exit from the
INTERLNK session in order for the installation process
to complete successfully. When you have exited from
INTERLNK, some batch files will be executed.
