  14. |   You might be required to install the Mwave for Windows 95 after    |
  15. |   you updated your ThinkPad with this System Program Service         |
  16. |   Diskette.  The version for the Mwave for Windows 95 should be      |
  17. |   Version 2.00 or higher.  Without these installation, Windows 95    |
  18. |   will not work correctly.                                           |
  19. |   When you update the system program with the System Program         |
  20. |   Service Diskette, please get the Mwave diskettes, and follow       |
  21. |   Mwave installation instruction document to install the Mwave       |
  22. |   support software in Windows 95 successfully.                       |

  24. |   If your ThinkPad is Windows 95 preload model, the complete         |
  25. |   Mwave support software is already installed.  You can              |
  26. |   continue to update the system program in your ThinkPad for         |
  27. |   corrective service.                                                |

  32. What This Diskette Does
  33. -----------------------
  34.  
  35. The System Program Service Diskette given here can update the system
  36. program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions,
  37. or expand functions.
  38.  
  39. The following models are supported:

  41.    - ThinkPad 760C, 760CD, 760L and 760LD

  43. To determine if you have to update the system program or not, please
  44. refer to the "Summary of Change" section.

  77.  - When SVGA monitor refresh rate is changed by ThinkPad Features
  78.    program, the screen of attached monitor is shrunk.

  80.    the suspend mode, any key must be depressed prior to entering your

  84.  - The system doesn't start when CMOS data is incorrect or the CMOS backup
  85.    battery is discharged.
  86.  - The serial and parallel ports can't be disabled by the Device Manager
  87.    in Windows 95.
  88.  - If hard disk password is set and when the system resumes normal
  89.    operation from suspend mode, the mouse cursor appears before the hard
  90.    disk password icon is displayed.
  91.  - The serial or parallel port data communication is sometimes broken, or
  92.    the modem/fax communication can't be established correctly.
  93.  - "Will not suspend even if LCD is closed" option doesn't work when the
  94.    Enhanced Video is enabled.
  95.  - In Windows 95, the system can't go into suspend mode when 'Standard'
  96.    option is selected in the power management setting of
  97.    <My Computer>-<Control Panel>-<Power Management>.
  98.  - (Test menu in Easy-Setup) 051-30 and 051-50 occurs intermittently
  99.    (Enhanced Video test error).
  100.  - (Test menu in Easy-Setup) 009-03 occurs intermittently (System Board

  104.  - (New) Support for ThinkPad 760L and 760LD.
  105.  - (New) A new Windows 95 PnP (Plug and Play) ID is assigned for the

  107.  - When an IBM Mini Mouse is attached, the keyboard may be locked.
  108.  - If the hard disk or diskette drive is disabled in the Windows 95
  109.    Device Manager, the resource will be still in use (will not be free).
  110.  - When an Adaptec 1542CP SCSI card (with PnP (Plug and Play) and FDC
  111.    (Floppy Disk Controller) enabled) is inserted in the IBM Dock-II,
  112.    the system can not be booted in Windows 95.
  113.  - The system with some Europe preload models hangs intermittently
  114.    in Windows 95.

  117.  - The system with a docking station does not load the Operations System.
  118.    The 'diskette drive in use' icon on the LCD indicator panel stays on
  119.    and the system hangs. The system works fine out of dock.
  120.  - If the <Easy-Setup>-<Config>-<Initialize> operation is done to initialize
  121.    the CMOS, the Power-On Password prompt doesn't appear on the screen when
  122.    the system returns to normal operation from suspend mode.
  123.  - (Test menu in Easy-Setup) When any test is done in the Easy-Setup Test
  124.    Menu, the HDD timer is set to 0 minute (disabled).

  127.  - (Fix) (Model 760C, 760CD only) On Windows 95, the system hangs when
  128.          next two conditions meet.
  129.            1.  The IBM Ethernet PC Card is inserted and configured to use
  130.                I/O address 0120-013Fh (default setting)
  131.            2.  The AC adapter is attached or detached to the ThinkPad or
  132.                the system goes into suspend mode (by Fn+F4 keys).
  133.  - (Fix) On Windows 95, the system hangs when it is left alone for a few
  134.          hours without AC adapter (i.e. at the battery operation mode).
  135.  
  136. <1.23>
  137.  - (Fix) Suspend-resume operation intermittently results in an unexpected
  138.          unstable status, only when several conditions and timing meet.
  139.  
  140. <1.24>
  141.  - (Fix) A small amount (8KB) of data could be overwritten and lost
  142.          under the following circumstances:
  143.  
  144.          - Hibernation is Enabled.
  145.          - There is data present on the last cylinder of the Hard
  146.            Disk Drive.  This Is the last area on the drive to be used,
  147.            but may contain user data if the drive has been full or
  148.            contains very large files.
  149.          - The ThinkPad actually enters Hibernation mode by pressing
  150.            Fn-F12 or by customized power management options.
  151.  
  152.         NOTE:  - The problem does not occur when creating the Hibernation
  153.                  file.
  154.                - It only occurs when the ThinkPad actually enters
  155.                  Hibernation mode.
  156.                - Only 2.1GB Hard Disk has this problem.  There is no
  157.                  problem with other hard disks currently available from
  158.                  IBM.

  162. Updating System Program
  163. -----------------------
  164.  
  165. Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update
  166.          the system program.
  167.  
  168.        - If your computer is attached to a ThinkPad Dock I, Dock II or
  169.          a port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before
  170.          proceeding.
  171.  
  172. 1.  Print these instructions or display on another computer.
  173. 2.  Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
  174. 3.  Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive
  175.     and turn on the computer.
  176. 4.  Select "Read this first..." from the menu and carefully read the
  177.     information that appears.
  178. 5.  Press the Esc key to return to the menu.
  179. 6.  Select "Update system program" and follow the instruction on
  180.     the screen.
  181.  
  182.     Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update
  183.              has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE
  184.              COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM
  185.              BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.
  186.  
  187. After the update has been completed, do the following to make the
  188. changes effective.
  189.  
  190. 7.  Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from
  191.     the diskette drive, then turn off the computer.
  192. 8.  Press and hold the F1 key, then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key
  193.     until the Easy-Setup menu appears.
  194. 9.  If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
  195. 10. Select Config, then select Initialize.
  196. 11. Select OK to initialize the system.
  197.  
  198. Run the diagnostics to make sure that the computer runs with no errors:
  199.  
  200. 12. Turn off the computer, press and hold the F1 key, then turn on
  201.     the computer. Hold the F1 key until the Easy-Setup menu appears.
  202. 13. Select Test, then select Start to run all the basic tests.
  203.     Various test patterns will appear on the screen.
  204.     An OK will appear for each device that passes the test.
  205. 14. Verify that OK appears for all of the devices tested.
  206. 15. Press the Esc key to exit Test and turn off the computer.

  212. Each version of the System Program Service Diskette contains the following
  213. system program (BIOS). The BIOS P/N and the date can be viewed by invoking
  214. Easy-Setup and selecting Config followed by System Board.
