  1. AUTHOR:Ernest Gellner
  2. CATEGORY:skepticism
  3. COMMENT:By a philosopher/anthropologist, this spirited defense of rationality takes on cognitive relativism and religious fundamentalism, the two culturally prominent alternatives to Enlightenment rationalism.  Gellner's discussion of Islam is relevant to the Christian version of fundamentalism also, and the book contains one of the best critiques of postmodernism (particularly within anthropology) around.  Also a very enjoyable read with minimal jargon.
