COMMENT:A pair of prominent conservative Christian apologists argue for survival after death and the orthodox Christian heaven and hell. Much of it is Bible-thumping, but the philosophical and evidential arguments are worth noting. They begin by affirming the soul, and their inept defense of substance dualism is a good illustration of why this view is out of favor. Their evidential argument is based on Jesus and NDE's. They defend Jesus's Resurrection by setting up an ultra-orthodox scenario against a caricatured rationalism. Their NDE material is based on a series of anecdotes, useful for understanding religious <em>beliefs</em>, but no more. There is also some selective skepticism: they attack <a href="/bib/196">Ian Stevenson</a>'s arguments for reincarnation because they don't fit Christianity, may be explained by possession rather than rebirth, and are likely explainable by mundane means anyway. Overall, a good reminder that creationism is not the only intellectual pathology in conservative religion.
