COMMENT:A must-read for all who are trying to make sense of Atlantis beliefs. Donnelly was one of the first to reintroduce Atlantis after Plato and be successful. This book is largely responsible for many of the ideas associated with Atlantis since then -- especially those of <a href="/bib/177">Edgar Cayce</a>. Donnelly takes Plato's account of Atlantis literally, sprinkles in the cataclysmic geology, archaeology and anthropology of his day and defends it all as science. The Dover publication is a reproduction of Donnelly's original manuscript with an introduction by E.F. Bleiler, who is not a believer yet finds the myth interesting for its effect on society. He offers valuable insight into Donnelly and the evolution of the Atlantis myth. A very good read.
