COMMENT:Consists of two long papers, plus an introduction. The first is "Science of the Anomalous or Search for the Soul," 1987, which is an overall survey of the field rather than detailed criticism of particular claims. This is invaluable in getting a comprehensive view of parapsychology from a psychologist critic's point of view at that time. It includes a postscript in reply to the criticism the paper prompted, which is also a must read. The second part is detailed methodological criticism, as part of a report to the Army Research Institute in 1988 about parapsychology. This includes random event generator research, particularly the work of Helmut Schmidt which is examined experiment by experiment in the appendices, and the early Jahn (PEAR) research. Then Alcock discusses remote viewing, particularly the supposedly better studies in the early 80's. He finds all to be flawed or weak in evidential value.
