~Wolfenstien 3D 2 WOLFIE04.PCX WOLFIE05.PCX Reviewed by Adriano Maurizio Grisanti 1995. You are Captain William J."B.J" Blazkowicz, and have recently been captured by the Nazis, will trying to undercover a plot by them to win the war, which if undertaken, would make the Allies defenseless, leading to a lot of blood shed and a great defeat. Any way, you are prisoner in Castle Wolfenstein, and must escape to stop the Nazis winning the war. There are six chapters in all to complete, each with 10 levels (one of which is hidden), yes thats a great thumping 60 levels, and to top it all, there are 4 skill levels to choose from, which are :- (1) Can I play, Daddy? (for beginners only) (2) Don't hurt me (recommended for more fun) (3) Bring 'em on! (only recommended if very good) (4) I am death incarnate! (only recommended for hard nutters) The games six chapters are also listed below:- (Chapter 1) Escape from Wolfenstein (Chapter 2) Operation : Eisenfaust (Chapter 3) Die, Fuhrer, Die! (Chapter 4) A dark secret (Chapter 5) Trail of the madman (Chapter 6) Confrontation When you start the game on the first chapter, you start of with just a knife and hand pistol, with 8 bullets, and notice you are standing over a dead guard you've just killed, now you must escape Castle Wolfenstein. The game then has you shoot your way out of the castle, finding new and better weapons along the way (A machine gun and Chain gun), you also can pick up treasure, ammo and keys up along the way. The keys let you unlock some of the doors on each level, which usually lead to the next level. Besides all this, there is abundance of secret rooms and levels for you to find. The sound is quite good, and adds atmosphere to the game, especially when the guards shot intruder, or shout something in German, the gun effects are quite good, along with the other effects. The music on other hand is alright, but you'll soon be turning it off, as it gets a bit repetitive at times. Wolfenstein 3D is similar to Doom, in fact it is produced by the same company. This version of the game I reviewed is V1.4, which has been released as a commercial product, and not the original shareware version, however a little while back the game got released as a commercial package, relabelled Spear of Destiny, but had an optional 2 data disks (add-on levels), it was virtually the same as the Wolfie3D, with just a few variations in level design. Any way I give this game 75%, as it looks a little dated next to the likes of Doom, but is still very playable, especially if your a Doom fan of late. If you Like Doom, Heretic or Blake Stone you'll like this, and will look forward to ID's forth coming game Quake, and Apogee's latest game Blake Stone 3D. However stay well clear of Corridor 7, Virtuoso & some of the other well known Doom clones, as they are all rubbish. ~Editor Adds..... Wolfenstien 3D was actually the first Doom style game (as everybody calls them nowadays). Wolfenstein is made by the same people simply because Doom is basically Wolfenstein 3, where Wolfenstein 2 was Spear of Destiny. For people who weren't around at the time of the release Wolfenstein then you would have missed all the fuss on this game, very similar to that of Doom in the past couple of years......
