~Forthcoming Games. A brief look into some of the games to watch out for in 1995 (96). A visit to the ECTS Show at Olympia, back in March was a great place to see exactly what the Software companiues have to offer. Games that have been on the book s for ages like Stonekeep, Lords of Midnight and Harvester, where all on show, but final versions NOT !!! Right here goes................ ~1944 : Across The Rhine (Microprose) A stunning armoured combat simulator controled from the inside of an armoured vehicle. Boasts great 3D graphics and low specifications. Release date June 1995. (CD ONLY) ~Championship Manager 2 There's been many new versions of CM come out in the past but Domark will be releasing the game under yet another title, simply "Championship Manager 2". The game has been developed over the past three years with a lot of new features being introduced via the feedback from existing users. Domark are boasting that this will be the BEST footy manager game available, upon it's release around Autumn of this year.... ~Civ Net (Microprose) The classic strategy game with many enhancements including a multi-player network/modem option (2-7 players). Available May 1995. ~Clockwerx (Microprose) Logical puzzle game, that sees you spinning a clock hand inside a variety of colured clocks and make moves. With over a 100 varied levels and two-player mode, this will sure to keep you puzzled for hours. Available Soon. ~Crusader : No Remorse (Origin) From a distance I thought this looked like a sequel to LBA, but when I got close, it was not !! Uses the same style screen view but with a much more violent and futuristic theme. Basically looks like its an Arcade Action Adventure, only saw a rolling demo, so couldn't have a good blast. Looks promising and release date believed to be soon. ~Cybermage (Origin) Looks to me like this is another Doom clone, but boasting better graphics, sound, puzzles, and gameplay. Judge for yourself when it's released sometime in '95, as I won't, due to there being too many of this type game around........ Release Date 29th June 1995. ~Deadline (Millenium) As soon as I saw this game I said to myself "Is this another UFO?". Nope it looks and plays very similar but the theme is slightly different, you play the part of a crack squad fighting against the terorists. Wide variety of locations. A game for all buddy UFO/XCOM fans. ~Dr.Drago's Madcap Chase (Blue Byte) This game boasts to be a unique interactive multi-player game, with plenty of fun built in.... Your task is to be the first to reach various detsinations to build up your cash to an adequate sum as to win the game.... Um, sounds like this has been done before but without the Multi-play side of things. Ah well, release date is sometime in June, so you'll be able to see for yourself then.. ~Extractors (Millenium) Nice looking and playing platform with around 25 levels of play and over 150 locations. With full CD soundtrack, music and narrative throughout. Animation sequences are quite pretty with a few video bits stuck in for good measure. Release Date Unknown. ~Frankenstein (Interplay) There had to be a game of the film, forget the platform game released by Junkyard, as it's literally junk, this looks to bring the PC to life. It's another one of those adventures with LIVE actors and great video style graphics. Tim Curry stars, alongside many others. Looks good, sounds good, but will the gameplay be there ? Well we'll have to wait till Summer of this year to find out. ~High Seas Trader (Impressions) Well this style game has been done before many a time, and looks like a cross between The Patrician and Pirates Gold. The graphics are not to 94/95 games standard and look more like a game two years old. Available NOW to any keen strategic game players out there. ~Kingdom - The Far Reaches (Interplay) I saw the preview of this running at the ECTS and the cartoon style video sequences where great, with excellent accompanying music score and voices..... Didn't have a lot of time to look about the game but it seemed to be a cross between strategy, arcade and adventure with a calm theme, rather than blood and guts.... Said to be the 1st Kingdom game in a series, oh no, that means sequels upon sequels or maybe just Expansion disks.... Well Late Spring of '95 is when we can see the game in full. ~Last Dynasty (Coktel Vision) A full video sequenced game with a mixture of simulation, action and puzzle solving adventuring. Will this game put an end to those beautiful games with no gameplay ? Well we'll just have to wait and see. Release dat SOON, and sure to be CD only. ~Navy Strike : Task Force Command (Microprose) Command a UN Task Force in Kuwait/Iraq, Libya or China. Control aircraft carrier air wing flights into tense military situations. Plan missions and encounter various political events. Real strategy mixed with a real flight simulation. Fly a F/A-18E, F-22N or a AX bomber in great SVGA graphics.... 486 33 with 4Mbytes of memory with CD seems to be all you need to run this great game..... Release date NOW. (CD ONLY) ~Pole Position : Formela 1 Team Manager (Ascon) I wondered when somebody would pick up the idea of releasing a F1 team and car manager, well Ascon have. I have no ideas of what it's like but basically its a Formula (Formela, in their language) One racing car manager in the same context as the likes of Premier Manager or Chamionship Manager..... Boast great graphics including TV style video clips. We'll have to wait and see .... ~Quantum Gate II : The Vortex (Hyberbole Studios/Time Warner) The first game in this series was supposed to have set the scene for interactive entertainment, but failed due to lack of gameplay. The second boasts FULL-LENGTH virtual cinema gameplay coming on no less than three CD's. Sounds good, looks goods, but have they done something about the gameplay ? Only time will tell, available Late Spring/Early Summer. ~Ravenloft : Stone Prophet The third title in this series, using the same free-scrolling 3D Engine as the other two. Theme based around ancient Egypt. Hopefully a few new enhancements would have been made to make the game a little more intresting and challenging to play, than the other two. ~Road and Track : Need For Speed (Electronic Arts). Remember the old Road and Track games, nope ? Well this is basically the same sort of game/simulation but with better graphics and sound and with a few more enhancements. If you like general racing games of the arcade style then this will probably be the next one to add to your collection when it eventually is released. ~Silverload (Millenium) A nice looking horror based adventure, with a nice mixture of cartoony style graphics. Based in a Ghost town in the Wild West. If it plays as well as it looks, worth a look at. Due Out Soon. ~Simon The Sorceror II (Adventure Soft) Most people who played the first, enjoyed, the second will surely extend your enjoyment of the character Simon and all his adventures. Boasting more locations, animated map, scrolling backdrops, 100's more devious puzzles, fun adventuring and much more.. If you want a good fun adventure then this one will be for you. CD Release in May 1995, with floppy version to follow in June. ~Space Quest VI (Sierra) Wilco is back and this time in full SVGA graphics and with more humour and video sequences than the others..... CD Only product to be sure, release date Soon. ~Star Trek : The Next Generation (Microprose) Take control of the UUS Enterprise in this great CD only simulator, with full sound and voices from the original cast/TV Series. With great Super VGA graphics and an ideal purchase for all Trekkie fans. Available NOW. (CD ONLY) ~Stonekeep (Interplay) Well need I say anything about this ? It's a fully 3D renedered video RPG game that has been on the verge of completion for years.. At the ECTS, I asked when the game was to be released, the answer I got was "PROBABLY late April", well at least he didn't say whether it was 95 or 96... A catalogue I picked up was even more vague, it told me "Release Date - To Be Confirmed".. Will we ever see this game before the word PC is extinct ? ~The Scroll (Millenium) An Egyptian based graphic adventure, looks good but I didn't get on too well with the user-interface, maybe it was me, maybe it was a preview version, I dunno.... As with most adventures, you just play by ear to see what others think of the game, and this is definately one that I won't recommend unless you try out 1st. Available NOW. ~Top Gun (Microprose) A fast and furious dogfighting and flying game, in the full spirit of the popular movie. Including sound track taken direct from the film. Complete interaction with other aircraft and pilots. Great graphics, sounds and gameplay, one to look out for around June 1995. Available NOW. ~Virtual Pool Looks nice, plays nice, um what else can I say ? Oh, compared to any other Pool game looks brill.... Oh, and even boasts a multi player option over the network, Email or modem.. This'll surely save you a few piles of 20p's down the pub. Release date NOWish. ~Werewolf vs Commanche (Nova Logic) Well this is basically an enhnaced (more enhanced if you bought the enhanced version) of the game Commanche Overkill BUT with the added bonus of the multi-player options and other craft to fly. You can play head-to-head or as a team via network or modem, as well as stand alone. You'll need 8Mbyte's and a 486 if your gonna get the best out of this... ~Z (Bitmap Brothers/Time Warner Interactive) Remember classics such as Speedball, Gods, Magic Pockets and Xenon II ? Yes, well the Bitmap Brothers are back with another great game. Action Strategy game with multi-player options. No strong news as yet, but sure to be a GREAT game.
