The Vallee Classification System
Invented by Jaques Vallee


    AN Rating
    Classifies any anomalous behaviour.

  • AN1
    Anomalies with no lasting physical effects. Light phenomenas and similar.

  • AN2
    Anomalies with lasting effects. Like crop circles, pieces of material or poltergeist.

  • AN3
    Anomalies with associated occupants or entities. Like aliens, spirits, ghosts, yetis and similar legendary entities.

  • AN4
    Witness interaction with entities like the ones in AN3. Near-death- and, Out-of-body-experiences and religious miracles.

  • AN5
    Anomalous reports of injuries or deaths. Like unexplained wounds/healing of wounds or spontaneous human combustion.


    MA Rating
    Describes the behaviour of a UFO.

  • MA1
    A visual sighting of a UFO wich travels in a discontinuous trajectory. Loops, quick turns and vertical raise/drops.

  • MA2
    A visual sighting of a UFO wich left physical evidence. Like burn marks or material fragments.

  • MA3
    A visual sighting of a UFO plus observed occupants or entities on board or in direct assocation with the UFO.

  • MA4
    Manoeuvres accompanied by a sense of reality transformation for the observer.

  • MA5
    A manoeuvre that causes permanent injury or death of the witness.


    FB Rating
    Fly-by rating.

  • FB1
    A fly-by of a UFO travelling in a straight line across the sky.

  • FB2
    A fly-by of a UFO travelling in a straight line leaving some kind of physical evidence.

  • FB3
    A fly-by of a UFO travelling in a straight line across the sky were entities are observed on board.

  • FB4
    A fly-by were the witness experienced a transformation of reality into the object or its occupants.

  • FB5
    A fly-by that causes permanent injury or death of the witness.


    CE Rating
    Rating of Close Encounters.

  • CE1
    A visual sighting of a UFO within 500 feet.

  • CE2
    A visual sighting of a UFO within 500 feet that leaves somekind of evidence like landing marks or injuries to the witness.

  • CE3
    Avisual sighting of a UFO with entities aboard.

  • CE4
    Abduction of a witness.

  • CE5
    Abducted witness that suffers from permanent psychological injuries or even death.


    SVP Rating
    A three numbered rating of credibility. The first digit is the source credibility, the second for site visit and the third for possible explanations.

    Source Reliability Rating

  • 0
    Unknown or unreliable source.

  • 1
    Report attributed to a known source of unknown or uncalibrated reliability.

  • 2
    Reliable source, secondhand.

  • 3
    Reliable source, first hand.

  • 4
    Firsthand personal interview with the witness by a source of proven credibility.


    Site Visit Rating

  • 0
    No site visit, or answer unknown.

  • 1
    Site visit by a casual person not familiar with the phenomena.

  • 2
    Site visited by persons familiar with the phenomena.

  • 3
    Site visit by reliable investigator with some experience.

  • 4
    Site vist by a skilled analyst.


    Possible Explanations Rating

  • 0
    Data constsistent with one or more natural causes.

  • 1
    Natural explanation requires only slight modification of the data.

  • 2
    Natural explanation requires major alteration of several parameters.

  • 3
    Natural explanation requires major alteration of several parameters.

  • 4
    No natural explanation possible, given the evidence.
