Rules for this Page
- The above are people associated publicly with UFOs as researchers, skeptics, journalists, theorists, business people or claimed witnesses. Some are intelligent and respectable; some are undisciplined; some are frauds... but this database adheres to the same journalistic ethics for everyone. The information collected in this database is not expected to be exhaustive but is a compilation of available files and data, with a focus on personalities, relationships and track records.
See the template for the list of categories used for all ufologists. Other supporting documentation can be found above.
- All people on this list were still living at the time their pages were created; deceased historical figures might be found on our
Dead Ufologists Page. Our focus, however, is on the living.
- To be listed here a person must be
"a public figure" in the UFO movement (or opposition to it), as defined by the existence of published articles, public appearances or reports in the national press by or about that person concerning the UFO topic. We use our best judgment as to who is "prominent" in the field. Because it beyond our scope, we do not attempt to list ufologists outside North America unless they also become known here. We will accept advice on this decision, but we also do not want the list to grow unmanageably large; thus, we will have to exclude some competent people who we feel are simply not well enough known.
- The non-inclusion of a ufologist on this list does not necessarily imply that the missing person is not significant; it only means they have not come to our attention, or we have not yet gotten around to adding them, or they simply are not widely known. (We acknowledge that prominence, or lack of it, does not necessarily equate with competence.) If we do not have a page for anyone, it only means that we have not had time or that we do not have enough data yet to justify one.
- Prominent characters in New Age, psychic and religious fields are generally listed only if they make specific claims about visitors from other planets. (A specific claim refers to some physical fact that will either be proven true or false with time--e.g. the aliens live in a specific star system or will arrive on earth on a certain date. We do not usually list people whose claims about aliens are purely spiritual and which therefore can never be proven true or false.)
- Witnesses in single UFO cases are usually listed only if the case is prominent and is strongly associated with their name, e.g. Travis Walton, Bob Lazar. Supporting characters or primary witnesses in lessor known cases are generally not listed here, but may be listed on topical pages associated with each case (e.g. Area 51 People.
- Where a person has multiple aliases, we generally file them under the name under which they first became known to us. Then, if the person is also prominent under another alias, we will later add the new name along with a pointer to the original record.
- Text in italics beside each person in the above list is intended to be a neutral description of the person's specialty or role in the UFO movement. It is a description that both allies and opponents of this person--and the person himself--should be able to agree is accurate.
- The focus of this database is personalities, relationships, track records and general directory information reported in a standard format. This database is not expected to replace the person's own home page, which can be much more exhaustive and detailed.
- Due to the limits of our resources, this list and the underlying pages will always be incomplete. We will try to keep these materials updated as best we can, but the work will always exceed our capacity. When faced with conflicting demands on our time, we will focus our resources on the people who we feel play a pivotal role or that our readers want to know about. Data and corrections sent to us by readers generally indicate to us that a page is worth updating, so we encourage all such input.
- We will correct our errors when they are brought to our attention. If you see any, please inform us. Send notice of error, along with any supporting information, to Area51www@aol.com
