INTRODUCTION
The possibility that a Bigfoot or Sasquatch creature exists in North America is the subject of continuing debate. Ongoing sightings of the creature and evidence in the form of footprints and photographs have elevated the issue far beyond hoax, imagination and folklore. There is just too much evidence provided by so many highly credible people to ignore the possible reality of the creature. This presentation centers on the facts as they are known and believed by investigators directly involved in the field.
FOOTPRINTS
Numerous large human-like footprints have been found in remote areas. Notwithstanding obvious fakes, the prints are anatomically correct. Intensive investigations have failed to disclose how credible prints could be made by anything or anyone other than a being who meets the description of the Bigfoot or Sasquatch creature.
This photograph shows Rene Dahinden measuring the space between tracks found on Blue Creek Mountain, California in August, 1967. The step of these particular tracks was 52 inches (132cm). The prints themselves were 15 inches (38cm) long and 6 inches (15cm) wide. The straight alignment of the tracks is characteristic of the creature.
This 13-inch (33cm) print photographed by Rene Dahinden is probably the best and clearest photograph of a print ever obtained . The print was found at Blue Creek Mountain, California in 1967. Deep, fine dust-like soil dampened by a brief rain provided an excellent surface for prints. In all, three sets of different size prints were found, measuring 13 inches (33cm), 12 1/4 inches (31cm) and 15 inches (38cm). A total of 590 clear prints were counted.
CASTS
Footprint casts, which are made by pouring plaster into prints, reveal both remarkable human-like foot construction as well as print variety. This latter point further confirms that there are a number of distinctive individual creatures making the prints.
This is a cast from a print found at Bluff Creek, California in 1959
It measures 16 inches (41cm) in length and 8 inches (20cm) wide.
These casts (right and left
foot) are from prints found at Bluff Creek, California in 1967.
They measured 14 1/2 inches (37cm) in length and 6 inches (15cm)
wide. (Note: Casts are viewed from beneath, which reverses right
and left as shown in this illustration.)
This Illustrated shows a comparison between a human foot, 10 inches (25cm) long and 4 1/2 inches (11cm) wide, and one of the 1967 Bluff Creek, California casts.
Here we see the right and left foot casts of prints found in Bossburg, Washington in 1959 . The cast on the extreme left, which measures 16 1/2 inches (42cm), indicates that the creatureÆs foot was deformed, possibly the result of an accident. The cast on the right, which measures 17 1/2 inches (45cm), is normal. (Note: Casts are viewed from beneath.)
In closing this discussion the following quotation from the book Bigfoot, by Dr. John Napier, is appropriate: One might pose the question: who other than God or natural selection is sufficiently conversant with the subtleties of the human foot and the human walking style to ædesignÆ an artificial foot which is so perfectly harmonious in terms of structure and function?
PHOTOGRAPHS
The only reasonably clear and credible photographs of Bigfoot are those obtained from a 16mm color movie film. The film was taken at Bluff Creek, California on October 20, 1967 by Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin. The film has been analyzed by many experts world-wide who remain divided on the authenticity of the creature. No evidence, however, has surfaced that proves the creature is not genuine.
These photographs from the film
frame 61 and
frame 72 show the creature when it was first spotted by Patterson and
Gimlin. Although it appears to be walking into the forest, it is
actually walking along the Bluff Creek sandbar.

This photograph taken from film
frame 323, is the next clearest image. Here
we see that the creature appears to have a skirting of long matted
hair on the lower part of its buttocks.
The clearest image of the creature is seen in this
photograph from film
frame 352.
At this point, the creature takes notice of Patterson, who is heading
directly towards it. The creature has turned to face the intruder
and is walking away rapidly.
A
close-up of the creature in the previous
photograph (film frame 352) reveals that it is female (evidenced by the
presence of breasts). "Its estimated height is seven (7) feet, three
(3) and one-half inches (2.23m), and its weight
about seven hundred (700) pounds (317.52kg)." Tracks of the creature at
this film site were 14.5 inches (37cm) long and 6 inches (15cm) wide.
(14.5 inch casts previously illustrated.)
The foregoing selection of photographs provides the clearest and most revealing images captured on the film. An enlargement of the creature's head (right) as it appears in the film on frame 352 (Picture to be added soon) provides some insight into its facial features. It is speculated that the bulging cheek on the creature's right side (left on photograph) was probably the results of its cheek and fur being pushed out upon contact with its body. It will be recalled that in this film frame, the head is turned to view Roger Patterson.
This photograph shows Roger Patterson (right) and Bob Gimlin examining casts. Gimlin is comparing his foot to a cast made from prints found in the Bluff Creek area in 1964. Both Patterson and Gimlin are holding casts from prints made by the creature shown in the film.
In May of each year, a Bigfoot Forum is held in Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia, Canada. Researchers assemble from all parts of the United States and Canada to compare notes and see presentations on the subject. In the following photograph, taken at the May, 1995 forum , is shown (front left to right) Larry Lund, Warren Thompson, Danny Perez, Rene Dahinden (back left to right) Robert Milner, John Miles, Dan Murphy and Barbara Wasson.
