Geography class. Remember the routine for the "region of the week"? Monday: read the chapters. Tuesday and Wednesday: endure the lectures. Thursday: stare at the badly mimeographed maps. If you were able to rattle off the rivers, mountain ranges, and top five cash crops on Friday's test, you had it made. Five milliseconds after handing in your paper, you could forget everything you had learned. Geography, however, is too important to be forgotten. After all, for many of us, geography is our first (and last) experience with places and cultures different from our own. How then can we make learning geography interesting, entertaining experience? ButtonWare's |E~1South American Trek^N enlists the PC in the task -- it's an interactive adventure game set among the countries of South America. As an intelligence officer for the President, it is your duty to explore the continent, gathering information about each region. As you travel through each country, you tour its capital, evaluate its natural resources, and uncover its history. Along the way, you must solve typical adventure game problems to complete your mission. How, for example, will you get through the dense rain forests of northern Brazil if you haven't found a machete yet? To learn more about the commands used in |E~1South American Trek^N, and adventure games in general, consult the instructions included with the program itself.
