SB PROP @ ARRL $ARLP029 ARLP029 Propagation DE KT7H QST DE W1AW Propagation Forecast Bulletin 29 ARLP029 From Tad Cook, KT7H Seattle, WA July 23, 1993 To All Radio Amateurs Solar activity continued low last week, although up slightly over the previous reporting period. Solar flux edged above 100, and may peak around 125 in the next few days. After that it should begin another slow drop, dipping below 100 around August 12. Conditions should be mostly unsettled, with the chance of a disturbance around July 29. Earlier in the week the geomagnetic field was quiet, but it has been unsettled over the past few days, with a number of periods with K indices as high as four. 20 meters remains the best overall band. During this time of Summer do not expect the highest HF bands to be much good, even if there is a sudden rise in solar flux. Sunspot Numbers from July 15 through 21 were 102, 96, 88, 118, 102, 94 and 79, with a mean of 97. 10.7 cm flux was 93.2, 97.1, 99.3, 100, 100.8, 102.2 and 105, with a mean of 99.7. The free solar data graphing program from WA4TTK should be available soon. The latest version irons out some wrinkles in the moving averages, and offers more user flexibility. This software will run on any MS DOS computer with an EGA or VGA display, and is a neat way to look at recent solar cycle trends. Watch this bulletin for more details. The path projection for this week is from Denver, Colorado to Burkino Faso. 80 meters should be open from 0130z to 0600z, peaking from 0430z to 0500z. 40 meters should be good from 0000z to 0700z, with the best times from 0230z to 0530z. 30 meters should be open from 2300z to 0730z, peaking from 0130z to 0600z. Look for 20 meter openings from 2130z to 0900z, with best signals from 0030z to 0630z. 17 meters should be open on most days from 1900z to 0630z, with best conditions from 2200z to 0300z. 15 meters may be open on a few days almost around the clock, but the best bets for openings are from 1500z to 0500z. Look for daily openings right around 0200z. 12 and 10 meters do not look good over this path. /EX
