Description ═══ Galleria/CM is a utility for capturing the displayed desktop or portions thereof, and saving the image captured in a bitmap. Either the whole desktop (screen contents), windows for selected applications, a selected region or the contents of a window can be captured. The result can be saved in the clipboard for subsequent pasting into another application, printed at varying resolutions, stored on disk in a number of bitmap file formats or Galleria invoked for further processing of the image. The type of capture, together with operational settings, can be changed by single-clicking with the left or right mouse button and selecting Options from the pop-up system menu. A capture is initiated by double-clicking on the Galleria/CM icon or (optionally) pressing the Print Screen key. Alternatively, select Snap from the pop-up system menu. If a delayed capture is specified, a count of the remaining seconds to the capture will be shown below the Galleria/CM icon. Select Stop countdown to terminate a delayed capture. Once the capture is complete, the image will be output to the selected destination. A status of working indicates that processing of the image is incomplete. The time for this processing will depend on the options selected. Note that another capture can be initiated while in the working status but processing and output of the second image is queued. Refer to Supported file formats for a list of bitmap file formats currently supported. Refer to Tips on usage for general pointers on usage of the program. Refer to How to register for licensing information and details on registering your copy of this program. Select Close from the system menu to terminate the program. The current capture options will be saved for subsequent execution. ═══ 3. Tips on usage ═══ The following tips on Galleria/CM usage may be helpful: o Place a shadow of the Galleria/CM application in the Startup folder to have it available at all times. Resource usage for Galleria/CM is negligible while inactive. o Set the Delayed snap option to give you time to arrange the desktop and pointer for the capture. o Choose the Application(s) source to capture all windows of the selected applications and exclude others from the background. o When capturing by Application(s), Window frame or Window client ensure that the window(s) selected is/are not partially obscured by other windows as the overlapped areas may form part of the captured image. o Select file format of CompuServe Graphics Interchange Format for best compression. o Large prints at higher resolution will use a lot of system memory. If you experience problems (eg. thrashing), drop the resolution and/or proportion of the page. If your printer supports a number of dpi settings, choose a lower value. o The use of the Print Screen key to initiate a capture is dependent on the -k switch being specified as a startup parameter. If the OS/2 System Print Screen function is also enabled, it will be disabled during Galleria/CM operation. ═══ 4. Options ═══ Refer to the Description for general help on this program. Use the Options dialog to select the source and destination for the capture. The source can be either the Desktop (entire screen contents), all windows for selected Application(s), a selected Region or a selected Window frame or Window client. Both Desktop and Application(s) sources will result in a screen size capture being taken. For a Desktop capture, the current (or delayed) desktop contents will form the resultant image. For Application(s) captures, only those windows belonging to the selected application(s) will be captured and the background will be blanked out. For Active window captures, the contents of the window active at the end of the delay period will be automatically selected. When a Region, Window frame or Window client capture is initiated, the status will change to selecting and a pointer displayed to enable a region or window to be selected. For a Region capture, position the top left-hand corner of the box displayed and click the left mouse button, then size the box and click the left mouse button again. The inclosed area will form the captured image. For Window frame or Window client captures, move the four arrow mouse pointer over the window desired and click the left mouse button. The whole window or client area will form the captured image. Note that dialog windows should be captured with the Window frame option. The output destination can be either the clipboard, a specified editor, a file on disk or a specified print queue. Selecting Clipboard will place the image in the system clipboard in a standard format for subsequent pasting into another application. A destination of Editor will place the image into the clipboard as above and then invoke Galleria for further processing of the image. Selecting File will save the image in a file on disk. The file name and format are specified in the File Options dialog. Selecting Printer will print the captured image. The printer queue, resolution and layout can be changed in the Printer Options dialog. For Desktop, Application(s) and Active window captures, a timed delay can be set to allow rearrangement of the screen contents. Select Stop countdown from the system menu to abort delayed captures. Note that a delay must always be set for Active window captures. Additionally, the pointer icon (cursor) can be included in Desktop or Application(s) captures. Select Add border to enclose the captured image with a line border. Select Prompt for options to display the Options dialog when each capture is initiated. Press More to change options for the currently selected destination. Press OK to accept these changes or Cancel to ignore changes and exit with original settings. ═══ 4.1. File options ═══ If the File destination is selected in the Options dialog, the image will be saved on disk in a file with the name given and in the format specified. Specify the full path name to the output file. If the file name ends with a sequence number (eg. SNAP0123.BMP) the number component can be automatically incremented on each capture to permit a series of files to be retained. Select the desired format for the output file from the list given. Note that the OS/2 2.x format may not be accepted by older applications. Refer to Supported file formats for a list of bitmap file formats currently supported. Press OK to accept these changes or Cancel to ignore changes and return to main options dialog with original settings. ═══ 4.2. Printer options ═══ If the Printer destination is selected in the Options dialog, the captured image will be printed. Specify the Queue for the print. The default printer, form etc for this queue will be used. A choice of low, medium and high resolution can be set to control output print quality, with high resolution offering maximum quality. Select a Border percentage to leave a blank edge along all sides of the page. The value specified is a percentage of the page width and height. Select the Area percentage to limit the output size. The value specified is a percentage of the total page area. Note that the image printed may be smaller in area than that specified if it would otherwise overlap the border above. This value is ignored if the Print to scale option is selected. For fine tuning the output, the relative Color bias percentages can be changed to lighten/darken areas of the image depending on the red/green/blue intensity of the original. A higher bias will result in a lighter tone for areas of that color. Additionally, the overall intensity can be changed by setting the desired Brightness. Position the slider arm at the desired position. The Print to scale option will print the captured image at the same scale as shown on the screen. Exact sizing will depend on display and driver but individual print proportions will be a constant. If the scaled image exceeds the page size (with border) it will be reduced to fit. The Color option will generate color output for printers (with appropriate drivers) supporting this capability. Press OK to accept these changes or Cancel to ignore changes and return to main options dialog with original settings. ═══ 5. Setup ═══ The Setup will appear when Galleria/CM is started only if the name of the Desktop application has been changed from the default. Select the current name from the list given. The default was OS/2 2.0 Desktop. Press OK to accept the selected entry. ═══ 6. Supported file formats ═══ The following file formats are supported by this version. o BMP - IBM OS/2 1.x bitmap Bits: 1, 4 or 8 Planes: 1 o BMP - IBM OS/2 2.x bitmap Bits: 1, 4 or 8 Planes: 1 Compression: None, RLE4, RLE8 o BMP - Microsoft Windows 3.x bitmap Bits: 1, 4 or 8 Planes: 1 Compression: None, RLE4, RLE8 o GIF - CompuServe Graphics Interchange Format Standards: GIF87a Bits: 1 to 8 o PCX - ZSoft Paintbrush Standards: Version 2.8, 3.0 Bits: 1 or 8 Planes: 1, 4 (with 1 bit per pixel) o TGA - AT&T Targa-24 Standards: Type 1, 9 Bits: 8 Compression: None, RLE o TIF - Tagged Image File Format Standards: Version 4.0, 5.0 (TIFF B or P), Intel byte ordering Bits: 1, 4 or 8 Planes: 1 Compression: None, Packbits o WPG - WordPerfect graphic Standards: Version 5.0 Bits: 1, 4 or 8 ═══ 7.
