They won't do anything until you've finished up the rest of the day.

If the guards don't leave when you look in the door, then you've
missed something.  Go back to the Abbey.

They won't be gone long enough for you to make a rescue.

Think about why they've gone roaming around the castle.

Now, you'll need a rope to get them out.

Have you been in the laundry room of the Abbey?

Then you should have 3 robes, complete with belts.
