Scott is one of the hottest programming talents in our present crop of submitters, and we have several other programs of his planned for future issues. Kingdom of Kroz is a multi-level exploration game. You wander around the screen picking up useful objects and avoiding monsters. Various kinds of objects, both good and bad, exist throughout the caverns, each represented by a different symbol on the screen. The first time you run into an object, its nature is explained on the screen, so you're not left "in the dark" about what some symbol means. The two most important objects are gems () and whips (ô). Gems can be thought of as your life force; each monster attack causes you to lose one or more, and once they're all gone, the next monster kills you. Whips let you lash out at whatever is in adjacent cells, killing monsters and knocking down weak walls. Other items include teleportation spells, "slow time" spells that let you move faster than the monsters for a while, and the somewhat-peculiar "invisibility" spell which makes you invisible to yourself while the monsters see you as easily as ever. (You get lots of points in exchange for incurring this.) When you're ready to go on to the next level, staircases lead you down. Sometimes, however, you must first find the key to unlock the door. Can you make it to the deepest depths of the dungeon, where it is rumored great treasure lies? If you do, let me know what's out there; I haven't made it that far myself!
