MAIN MENU HELP: Main Menu Bar consists of 7 main catagories or 8 catagories on the unregistered versions of DZIP. Catagories: Registered Version Catagories are ZIP, UNZIP, TEST, VIEW, SETUP, EXIT and HELP. Unregistered Version Catagories are ZIP, UNZIP, TEST, VIEW, SETUP, EXIT, REGISTER and HELP. Each Main Menu Bar Catagory contains a Pulldown Menu consisting of Submenus. These Submenus are described below. Submenu ZIP: Diskettes: This option allows the zipping of diskette(s). DZIP zips all files on a diskette, including files in subdirectories. This allows you to recreate a new diskette that is idenical to the original diskette. Note! DZIP will not duplicate diskettes that are copy protected! Hard Drive: This option allows file(s) that located on your hard disk drive to be zipped into a single zip file. You may have DZIP create the new zip file on any drive/directory that you choose. You may also zip an entire directory and/or subdirectories including the files stored in them to a single zipfile. DZIP will automatically store the directory/subdirectories path in the new zip file, thus allowing you to automatically recreate the original directory/subdirectories when you unzip the zip file. Span Disks: This option allows the zipping of an entire hard disk drive and or directory/subdirectories to diskettes. If the new zip file is larger than the target diskette, DZIP will split the zip file across several diskettes automatically. This will allow you to backup programs that are larger than one diskette and retain the directory/subdirectories format as well as all files and paths that make up the program. This is very handy if you don't have the original diskettes to reinstall the program. When unzipping the diskettes DZIP will automatically create the directory/subdirectories and rejoin the file on your hard disk drive. ENU] [SUBMENU1] [-A-] [-B-] MAIN MENU HELP: Main Menu Bar consists of 7 main Menu Bars or 8 Menu Bars on the unregistered versions of DZIP. Menu Bars: Registered Version Menu Bars are ZIP, UNZIP, TEST, VIEW, SETUP, EXIT and HELP. Unregistered Version Menu Bars are ZIP, UNZIP, TEST, VIEW, SETUP, EXIT, REGISTER and HELP. Each Main Menu Bar contains Pulldown Menus consisting of Submenus. These Submenus are described below. Menu Bar ZIP: Diskettes: This option allows the zipping of diskette(s). Menu Bar UNZIP: To Diskettes: This option allows you to unzip a zipfile to diskette. DZIP will recreate all information on a blank diskette that consists of all the information that the original diskette contained. This option will automatically recreate directories, subdirectories, hidden & system files and volume labels. This is very handy when you want to recreate program disks that are on low density disks to high density disks or 5.25" disks to 3.5" disks. When changing the size of diskettes that a program was originally on, you must make sure that the new diskettes contain enough free disk space for all files that were on the original disk. Note! Zip files must have been created use DZIP's ZIP DISKETTE(S) option (or equivlant) to ensure that directories and volume labels will be recreated on the new diskette. To Hard Drive: This option allows you to unzip a zipfile to your hard disk drive. DZIP will automatically recreate the directories hard disk drive and store files in the same directories they were originally zipped from. General Information: DZIP Version 2.0 Copyright(C) 1994 UData Written By Thomas L. Utley Special Thanks To: Ron Washburn (Beta Tester) Tom Krist (Bulletin Board Support) Keith Ketcham (Bulletin Board Support) Due to the overwhelming requests for a new version of DZIP version 1.2, DZIP Version 2.0 was created. DZIP version 2.0 has been completely rewritten to allow the use of neater and more user friendly menus, as well as more options. DZIP is the product of many hours of hair pulling programming, therefore if you want to continue using DZIP we would appreciate you registering it! The purpose of DZIP is to create " ZIP " files or to extract " ZIP " files with all the switches in PkZip automatically set to copy or create an entire disk. This includes all hidden, read only, system files and subdirectories and then puts the files into their directories just as they were on the original disk. DZIP will not duplicate copy protected diskettes. DZIP will also zip an entire hard drive, directories and span large ZIP files across several diskettes. You can view and test ZIP files and much more. FEATURES: Automatic incrementation of zip files. If you are creating more than (1) zip file, you can give it a base name of (6 or 7) characters and the program will add a " 01, 02, 03, etc. " to the file name. You can just feed the disks into your computer and the program will prompt you to place the next disk in when it is ready. If in the future more features are added to PkZip there will be complete configuration so you can add the commands to the program easily. When unzipping files you can specify a default drive and subdirectory for your configuration which can be changed on the fly easily. You can view any zipped file to see the contents, size and method of compression along with the CRC value of each file in the zip. You can test the integrity of any zipped file for CRC errors. This is a good idea before trying to upload a file to a BBS. There is nothing more frustrating than spending a lot of time downloading a file just to find out the file is corrupt and will not run. Please consider the others who may wish to download the program. REQUIREMENTS You will need to have a copy of PkZip and PkUnzip ver 2.04g in your DOS path along with DZIP. You can press [F1] for help on any given subject for an example of the usage of the parameter. I can be reached on the BBS " The Marion Software Connection " located in Marion, Ohio at 614-387-3524 & 614-382-3534. Please leave me E-Mail and let me know what you think of the program, along with any suggestions for enhancements that would be useful. PkZip & PkUnzip are copyrights of PKWARE 7545 N. Port Washington Rd. Glendale, Wi 53217 A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR: DZIP v 1.0 was written as a 'what the hell' program. I just wanted to show the guys at my users meeting that I could do it. Next thing you know, DZIP was being passed around over major BBS's everywhere (Thanks to Tom Krist and the Marion BBS). I started getting letters and messages from all over telling me how great DZIP was. I thought, "hey, that's pretty neat." Not long after that, I started hearing, "where's the new version of DZIP?" Being busy with my real job, which is writing banking software, I didn't have the time or the energy to write another version of DZIP. After being razzed for almost 2 years by most of my computer friends and every month at the users meeting, I decided to write a new version of DZIP containing all the new features that had been requested. This time it was going to be SHAREWARE. I figured if I could get some money doing this, my wife would not be so hard on me about spending so much time on the computer. This would also compel me to write more shareware software, as well as updates to DZIP. General Information: DZIP Version 2.0 Copyright(C) 1994 UData Written By Thomas L.
