tips for using "john the ripper"(JTR) ------------------------------------- submitted to "the club" by TEKN0 GURU august 26, 1998 all that "for educational uses" stuph applies here.....dont be stupid this is for the JTR win95 version.....i know *nix is better...direct flames to dev/null and nukes to 127.0.0.1 this file is not loaded with all the tips that there are for JTR because there are alot more then just i can write.. but i have found this one tip especially useful and makes using JTR much easier. i have found that JTR is easier to use if you : 1) make a file (name it what ever you want) and but all the stuph that JTR needs to operate in that file.(just the core files of JTR) 2) go to your root directory (usually C:\) and copy the command.com file from there and paste it in to your folder containing JTR. 3) place your password file in to the same folder now 4) activate the command file by clicking on it then at the dos prompt type in "john -w:xxx.dic xxx.txt" and hit enter it will then get right to the l/p's (xxx's= the names of you dictionary file and password file) 5) the l/p's will comeflowing out at the bottom of the dos box good luck all....
