Lifeline95 Copyright (c) 1996 Mark Lidikay All rights reserved This program is designed to make additional backup copys of the system registry, system.ini and win.ini files in Windows95 Windows95 keeps two backups of the system registry, one is updated each time the system starts, the other is the initial start up registry. I have found occasions when both the primary and backup copy of the registry became corrupt. If you go back to the initial registry stored in the root directory you then have to setup all your programs and system setting like you did when first installing Windows95. Since this can happen far to easily (like during a program install) I wrote this program to make addtional backups that could be used to restart the system with out spending hours re-installing. RESTORING THE BACKUPS Each time the program starts it makes an addtional backup of the SYSTEM.DAT (registry), WIN.INI, and SYSTEM.INI files. They are numbered 0 thru 9, 0 being the most recent. Example:SYSTEM.DA9 would be the oldest backup registry. When restoring you should choose most recent backup set before the problem started. If you are in doubt, set 9 would be the most likely to get your system started again. To restore the backup files, just copy the backup file over the INI file. These commands are done from a Dos prompt, assuming that you can't start Windows because of the problem. In order to start into the Dos mode hit F8 as soon as the computer says "STARTING WINDOWS95" on boot, then choose Dos prompt only from the menu that comes up. Example: CD\WINDOWS ATTRIB SYSTEM.DAT -R -S -H COPY SYSTEM.DA5 SYSTEM.DAT COPY WIN.IN5 WIN.INI COPY SYSTEM.IN5 SYSTEM.INI This example would restore backup 5. After the files are copied, reboot the system. If it does not restart properly try an older backup. The file date should assist you in choosing the correct backup. Example: DIR SYSTEM.DA? This will show you all of the registry backups and the date and time. License Agreement You should carefully read the following terms and conditions before using this software.
