Ponk

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Ponk 1.3

Format: Win OS

Description: Missed Pong? Well stop weeping and start rejoicing! Its back, and its now on mIRC thanks to this funky little addon. Open up a can of coke and prepare to face off against a neat AI player on a configurable playing field. The readme is a little sparse, but hey, all you need to do is follow the simple commands that appear when the script is loaded. Settings are configured via a dialog window, and a custom window configures colours. You can change how many wins before a game ends, how fast you or your computer opponent is, and even what sort of sound to play when the ball hits a wall. The coding is all good, nothing really worth picking at. I had no problems playing the game either. On the suggestion side, however, I'd like to see the ability to save/load custom themes as well as when a game ends it displays "Computer Wins" (hopefully not) or "Player Wins". This is definitely a good script to pass the quiet periods, and I'm sure will delight many traditional computer gaming enthusiasts. I'll leav

Port Scanner

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Port Scanner 3

Format: Win OS

Description: A fairly nice and compact port scanner addon. The addon allows you to specify a range of ports and delay between checking each port. My one major complaint about this addon is that there was no documentation whatsoever provided. However I did find a 'pscan' alias which opened up the script's main interface dialog. The script seemed to work as far as I could tell. The one thing I would suggest is checking to see whether or not the dialog is opened before trying to ouput information to it during a scan. If I wanted to scan a large number of ports and have the information logged, it would be nice to close the dialog without getting numerous "* /did: invalid parameters (line 63, scanner.mrc)" errors. The script was quite well done, the interface was nice and easy to use. However, a script really should provide some amount of documentation, no matter how easy it is to use.

Ports- Scan-Listen

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Ports- Scan-Listen 1

Format: Win OS

Description: Addon which is used to scan ports on a remote host machine. Not sure what use could come of this, other than looking for holes in systems. I'm just going to assume it was used for finding holes in your OWN system for security reasons. I had trouble getting the port listener to work, so I'm afraid that I'll have to skip that one. It did not work for me when connection were opened on my ports, such as 598 and 21. Monitoring port 0 for UDP connections was a hassle as well. It didn't even report ports such as 59 that already existed in the list of ports being watched. The port scanner, on the other hand, did work, but not without error. It did not allow me to scan my UDP port 0, so there was a bit of a problem there. Saving a scan to a log file was implemented, nice job. The log file does get ugly when the scans get larger and larger. Perhaps think of adding a 'Date' to the top of the scan session when a scan is initiated? At the end of a scan, the addon seems to not know when to finish, leaving t

Power-Serv addon and OpenDL Bundle

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Power-Serv addon and OpenDL Bundle

Format: Win OS

Description: Power-Serv addon and OpenDL Bundle is just really the Power-Serv addon. The OpenDL needs to be loaded WITH the Power-Serv addon, else the Power-Serv dialogs will not work. I don't like the fact that I didn't see any popups for this addon, just an alias. The addon also takes over the F7 function key on your keyboard (not good). Upon first using the addon, there was a conclusion that error checking was not everywhere. For instance: If you load the nickserv dialog then try to load it again, you will get this error: * /dialog: 'nickserv' name in use (line 85, opendl.mrc). The same applies for the ChanServ and MemoServ dialogs, which show: * /dialog: 'chanserv' name in use (line 20, opendl.mrc) & * /dialog: 'memoserv' name in use (line 34, opendl.mrc). Trying to do the power serv dialog again gives this: * /dialog: 'services' name in use (line 27, opendl.mrc). The about dialog also generates an error when you try to open it while it's already open: * /dialog: 'aboutdnpsa' name in use (line 13, open

Progress Indication Window

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Progress Indication Window 1.6

Format: Win OS

Description: Progress Indicator that is based on a custom picture window and that you can easily use in your script. The script contains some documentation at the beginning of the remote file. The author might want to consider puttin all of the instructions into a readme.txt file instead and zip the entire package up. While it doesn't have any setup instructions, it is fairly easy to use. The progress indicator is created via a picture windows that gradually goes from 0 to 100%. The percentage of the progress bar is indicated in the middle of the picture window. You can specify the text that accompagnies the the percentage changes and specify the percentage that you want it to show. The coding is relatively well done, eventhough it could be improved in certain areas. For example, local variables could have been used for the loops. The author should also avoid using "halt" and try "return" instead. If you'd like a little extra in your script, presentation wise, this might be a good addon for you.
