Stauf Puzzle (Painting Gallery)
Hint 1 of 17:
There's really no way to give a straight solution to this puzzle, since
the initial conditions are randomly generated.
Hint 2 of 17:
This puzzle is very similar to the crypt puzzle. If you remember how you
finished the crypt puzzle, you may want to apply your strategies from that
puzzle to this one.
Hint 3 of 17:
I found that it was best to work one square or group of squares at a time
at the start of the puzzle, until I reached some kind of recognizable pattern
or order to the colors of the squares. Trial and error is the only real
strategy here, at least when you start out.
Hint 4 of 17:
But if the above technique doesn't work for you, there is a definite
solution that will get you to the end. I should warn you first that the
solution I'm about to give is probably the *least* efficient. The only
advantage it has is that it's guaranteed to work. I recommend you try to
get to the end and turn only to these hints when you're hopelessly stuck.
Hint 5 of 17:
I've numbered the squares in this puzzle a bit differently from the systems
used in other solutions. The top row is numbered 1-3, left to right, the
middle row is 4-6, and the bottom row is 7-9.
Hint 6 of 17:
Each step tells you how to get a single square to change one color. So
a normal square becomes red, a red one green, and a green one normal. The
first number represents the square to change, and each number afterwards
tells you how many times to click on square #, listed in order from 1-9.
Hint 7 of 17:
Hint: there's a way to combine some of the steps below, but it may take a
while to explain, so in the interest of saving space, I've left it out. If
you're looking for a challenge, try to find it for yourself.
Hint 8 of 17:
1: 1 0 1 / 0 1 2 / 1 2 2
Hint 9 of 17:
In other words, click on squares #1, 3, 5, and 7 once each, and on squares
#6, 8, and 9 twice each. Don't click on #2 or 4. Here come the rest of the
solutions:
Hint 10 of 17:
2: 1 1 1 / 1 1 1 / 0 2 0
Hint 11 of 17:
3: 1 0 1 / 2 1 0 / 2 2 1
Hint 12 of 17:
4: 1 1 0 / 1 1 2 / 1 1 0
Hint 13 of 17:
5: 1 1 1 / 1 0 1 / 1 1 1
Hint 14 of 17:
6: 0 1 1 / 2 1 1 / 0 1 1
Hint 15 of 17:
7: 1 2 2 / 0 1 2 / 1 0 1
