You should visit the adventurer's guild and sign in. Look at the quests on the bulletin board in there.
Drop by the alley in near the tavern and pay the beggar for information.
It wouldn't hurt to pick up some cheap supplies -- apples and vegetables from the fruit stand. You might want a flask from the dry goods store.
