Note from David Hakala, author of Modems Made Easy (CIS 74720,3377, Internet david.hakala@boardwatch.com, voice 303-355-4479) "The worst time for an author is the first six months after a book is written. I lie awake nights, wondering if anyone out there is reading it. If so, did it work for them? Did I accomplish anything by writing it? The agony was especially intense after MME went to press, for this is the book I have dreamed of giving to the world for many years. Mercifully, readers' comments like the following began flowing in just a month after Modems Made Easy went on sale." From: PETER C. MCSTRAVICK, 72152,37 Having only had my modem for a week, your book certainly made things much easier and understandable for me. I especially appreciate the way it was written so "techno-nerds" like myself would be able to comprehend it. I do have a question regarding the bonus offers at the back of the book. Do they also apply to Canadian readers? Thanks again for a great book! (You bet! Just send U. S. Dollars. - DH) ********* From: Dan Fingerman, 71172,532 (Author, "Ami Pro Made Easy") Congratulations. A quick browse over lunch not only impressed me (I like your style a lot), but also helped me solve a couple of problems I'm having with a new modem. Thanks. ********* From: Bill Thoen, Sysop, GISnet (303-447-0927) Nice job! You make it all sound so easy! You also sounded like you didn't have a care in the world; the tone is upbeat everywhere. I would like to talk to you about selling this book through the BBS, as I think there is a wide audience for it. Heck, they call my board every day asking the same old questions that you answer in the book! (Bill and other sysops can obtain Modems Made Easy at substantial savings off the publisher's list price. -- DH) ********* From: Lutz von Meyerinck, 100064,2323 (Brussels Belgium) David, I read your excellent book MODEMS made easy. I am full of admiration as it is the compendium I ever wanted to have since I am fooling around with couplers (!) and modems. ********* From: Mark Harrison (author of PICK-UP and RECORD scripts for Telix) After buying it just yesterday I have almost finished it from cover to cover already. That is a big compliment coming from me that can't remember reading a book that was not for homework back in school (and not always then). P.S. Please reply that you got this so I know you did. I'm new to this internet gate stuff (one of the reasons I found your book so interesting). Good Luck.......mark.harrison@f23.n2250.z1.fidonet.org ******** From: Fady El-Rukby, 71736,3547 I bought your book "Modems Made Easy". It was great. I like its combination of comprehensiveness and reader-friendliness. It is a good reference. My experience with modems is relatively new. I am a civil engineer but with great interest in computers. I would like to ask you to direct me to a BBS (preferably in San Diego) which has two of the shareware programs mentioned in your book; namely: Personal-E Mail, and Wizlink. I couldn't find them on compuserve or Ziffnet. (You gotta shuck a lot of oysters to find these pearls. Both programs, PEM for person-to-person e-mail and WizLink for remote control a' la PC Anywhere, are included on the MME Bonus Disk Set. - DH)
