TITLE: "Unrecoverable Application Error" Using Long Path PRODUCT: Ami Pro 2.0 DATE: 14-Nov-1991 PROBLEM: The message "Unrecoverable Application Error. Terminating Current Application" appears during an attempt to open a file from a long path (thirteen levels deep). SOLUTION: "Unrecoverable Application Error..." (UAE) will result attempting to open a file when the total number of characters in the path (including drive, backslashes between directories and the file name) exceeds the 78 character limit in the Ami Pro File / Open edit box. This may be the case when a long path is specified and you type the file name without the extension of .SAM. Everything will fit except all or part of the .SAM extension. For example, you specify a path and file name that amounts to 76 characters. The program needs to add the .SAM extension which brings the total count to 80. NOTE: Normally this will occur when, in error, you are specifying a path that is longer than an existing path. Since Ami Pro will open a file with a name of 8 characters in a path of 66 characters (which is the maximum allowed by DOS 5.0) without generating an error message, a path long enough to generate the UAE message probably does not exist. Modified Ami Pro files are available which will not produce a UAE even if you type in a path that is too long. Instead, an informational message that the directory does not exist will display. Contact Lotus Word Processing Division Customer Service at 404-256-2272 and request the modified Ami Pro files that will not produce a UAE if a File / Open path is specified that is too long.
